I suppose it depends on the level of theistic/Islamic insanity your BF is invested with. If he's mostly a live and let live, don't care-ist, should be OK.

If not, you might want to cruise over to Craigslist "Casual Encounters" for a bit.

lol we've been together almost 6 years now, I'm pretty sure he's not gonna go out and blow something out or behead someone.

For the most part, I don't mind his religion, I just find some things annoying. Like when I go shopping and have to check every label for ingredients and then if I get something wrong, he'll refuse to eat it. Small stuff that I've never really thought of before but now I always have to keep in mind, since we just moved in together 4 weeks ago. Other than that we're pretty much fine with each other.

It's quite odd that he will not eat certain foods because of his religion yet, I'm assuming he's having sex with you outside of marriage?

Plus the fact even if you were married most Islamic sources suggest it would be an unlawful marriage.

Quote:O you who believe! When believing women come to you as emigrants, examine them; Allaah knows best as to their Faith, then if you ascertain that they are true believers send them not back to the disbelievers. They are not lawful (wives) for the disbelievers nor are the disbelievers lawful (husbands) for them. But give them (disbelievers) that (amount of money) which they have spent (as their Mahr) to them. And there will be no sin on you to marry them if you have paid their Mahr to them. Likewise hold not the disbelieving women as wives

And

Quote:Let not the believers take disbelievers for their friends in preference to believers. Whoso doeth that hath no connection with Allah unless (it be) that ye but guard yourselves against them, taking (as it were) security. Allah biddeth you beware (only) of Himself. Unto Allah is the journeying.

I had a Muslim girlfriend once, I guess the reason I didn't debate this stuff with her is because she was 19 years old with a very fit body and just had certain assets that made religious debates the last thing on my mind.

AWWWWW YEHHHHHHHHH Devil you know what I'm talkin about.

Are you ready for the fire? We are firemen. WE ARE FIREMEN! The heat doesn’t bother us. We live in the heat. We train in the heat. It tells us that we’re ready, we’re at home, we’re where we’re supposed to be. Flames don’t intimidate us. What do we do? We control the flame. We control them. We move the flames where we want to. And then we extinguish them.

Impersonation is treason.

RE: Muslim boyfriend
My significant other married an Iranian Muslim about 15 years senior to her right out of high school. They moved to Iran around 82ish and she spent most of the mid 80s living there. Shortly after finding out she was pregnant she got on a plane and headed home and divorced him. She had no desire to raise a child in that environment.

Today she is an atheist with a very low opinion of Islam and her ex husband. Results may vary.

Well if you don't understand his beliefs then maybe you shouldn't be together - or at least are not ready to live together.

If I had a significant other, which I don't, I wouldn't set about changing her beliefs but I'd certainly start by understanding what they are and what they mean to her.

Let's just say Islamics would be very low on the list of who I would consider datable - HIV positive South Africans are probably the only people who I would consider even less.

Muslim-man, is ok to marry with non-muslim woman, but only for non muslim which are whether christian(catholic, protestant) and judaism. Means, he shouldnt marry you..this is pure islam law. Not from my standpoint.
Anyway, succeed on your relationship Big Grin

RE: Muslim boyfriend
I've gotten two offers of arranged marriages to a Muslim woman, provided I convert to Islam. The first was from my sister's neighbor, who offered HIS sister, a 16 year-old back in Saudi. My idiot Christian brother-in-law was like 'Why not? They're rich and you're not a Christian'. Maybe not, but I AM enough of a romantic to not do acquire a teenage bride like brokered livestock. I'm sure her brother's motivation was to have an American relative for business purposes.

The second was years later, a Somali Bantu refugee whose family I was helping out offered me her 12-year-old daughter...not to be actually done until she reached 18, though Mom would probably have been okay with 14 back home. Combination of gratitude and opportunity for a rich (speaking very relatively) son-in-law is my guess.

Maybe I look too much like good in-law material.
I'm not anti-Christian. I'm anti-stupid.

RE: Muslim boyfriend
Well, I have enough balls to put him back in his place if he gets to be too much for me, I wouldn't let him pressure me into joining his religion or drag me to a Muslim country. I've read a lot about Islam ever since we started dating and I know about the good, the bad and the ugly but I've known him for 10 years now and I know that he would never hurt me.
Just the other day we were fooling around and he accidentally cut my gum with his nail and the first thing he did when he realised he had hurt me was to go and cut his nails. He may be a Muslim but he's a pacifist who just wants people to stop fighting already and get along, like normal adults and not bickering children.

And about children and marriage, I personally don't believe in marriage and we'd just do it for tax purposes tbh and I can't have children without help so that's not really something on our minds a lot but we've already agreed to raising them as Atheists until they're old enough to understand and choose their own paths.

Tbh, I think that one day he'll leave his religion. Answering what some people have asked me, yes we do have sex outside of marriage, and his only "tie" to his religion right now is food. Considering this, I think that after being away from his family for a while and living a relatively carefree life where he doesn't have to worry about much except for actual problems, he'll realise what he's missing and leave the religion behind.

We really have no major problems with our relationship though, we've already discussed things regarding our different views and we're hapy together. I really just wanted to know what other people's opion would be.

It's unbelievably naive of you to say that. You wouldn't be the first, there's millions of women who are with men that they believe "will change" or that "they can change".

RE: Muslim boyfriend
Back 20 years ago I knew several muslims who were like your boyfriend. . They drank alcohol, smoked, swore, enjoyed rude jokes and chased girls alongside their English pals. Being a muslim wasn't a big deal it was just part of their upbringing. But they would never eat pork either. It was the one thing they wouldn't do. One time my pal Parvez and I stopped at a motorway place for breakfast . We both had the English breakfast and I had his bacon and sausages and he had my eggs.
Good luck with your relationship.
It's not immoral to eat meat, abort a fetus or love someone of the same sex...I think that about covers it

Not enough information to go on. What flavour of muslim is he. Does he really believe (in which case there is no hope for the relationship) or is he a muslim like Jon Stewarts a jew.
