After a long day at work I always look forward to reading hate mail and emotional blackmail from my devoted and loving family. ^^

You should also probably ask her if she thinks that Lennon's words caused him to be shot (as the sentence implies), and then ask if this is meant to be an argument for being a Christian. Does she have a belief that everyone who disagrees with her should be "shot"? Does she think his shooting was "just" because he said what he did? If she answers 'yes' to either of these, I wouldn't want to touch her religion with a very long pole.

Of course, it should probably be noted that Mark David Chapman was a youth minister who had actually claimed to have been spurred on to kill Lennon by similar quotes (admittedly, it appears that his song "God", recorded four years later was more of a catalyst than his "more popular than Jesus" remark.) And for that matter, didn't Lennon apologize for his remarks shortly after they became controversial in America?

It is the person who merits or does not merit respect. By failing to respect you she forfeits that privilege.

My mother is 83 and a devout Catholic. She is fully aware of my views. We agree to differ because we love and respect each other.

I behave respectfully towards everyone I meet in real life. If that respect is not returned I avoid that person.Period..

Your choices seem to either wear it or to ask your Oma to desist with the emails or you will put a block on her address---and mean it. You could try reasoning,bu that's unlikely to work if she is aware of your feelings and ignores them.

I hate forwards/chain letters. I hate them more than spam. The whole "Here's a myth now forward this to ten people." I have zero tolerance for people who send me chain letters. I do not get chain letters from people anymore. If I get one, I warn them to never send me one again or they got blocked. If they do it again I might warn them a second time. A Third time gets them on my block list.

I hate hate hate chain letters. I don't care if it's Christian or whatever. They all suck.

I'm particularly amused by the ones that make claims along the following lines....

" A. Jones of Bumfuck Idaho did not pass on this chainmail and one week later his testicles exploded"

Logically the chainmail he supposedly ignored did not contain the information above so in fact

he had a different mail. Not the one making the claim.
