You went a step further - you concluded from that defense that US is a Christian nation.

Can you explain that one?

Now you are assuming that drippy knows what 'attribution' means.

Never hear them quote William Penn do you? Doesn't fit their narrative. And Thomas Paine, really? He was a pamphleteer. That's like saying Michael Moore represents the mainstream opinion of congress.

FWIW, Johnny Appleseed was a Swedenborgian.

It fits my narrative.

No one is questioning the fact that many of the founding fathers were Christian.

But they (even the Christians) went out of their way to create a secular government.

You'd believe if you just opened your heart" is a terrible argument for religion. It's basically saying, "If you bias yourself enough, you can convince yourself that this is true." If religion were true, people wouldn't need faith to believe it -- it would be supported by good evidence.

So what?
So it was originally colonised as a Christian country.

No, there was no Christian country - there was no country at all.

Wikipedia Wrote:Rather, the motivation behind the founding of colonies was piecemeal and variable. Practical considerations, such as commercial enterprise, overpopulation and the desire for freedom of religion, played their parts. The main waves of settlement came in the 17th century. After 1700 most immigrants to Colonial America arrived as indentured servants—young unmarried men and women seeking a new life in a much richer environment. Between the late 1610s and the American Revolution, the British shipped an estimated 50,000 convicts to its American colonies. The first convicts to arrive pre-dated the arrival of the Mayflower.

Yes, clearly it was not the desire to keep it the collection of nominally christian colonies that made them violently into a country.

Yes, but without the colonisation the USA as it is today couldn't exist. And that's my point, the country was originally founded by the British. It was changed to a secular government later, but it wasn't founded as one.

The country was not founded by the British, colonies were founded by the British. It wasn't a country until the British government was kicked out and the new (secular) government of the United States of America was created.

The country was founded with a secular government. There is no country until the Constitution is adopted.

You are very confused as to what constitutes a country.

RE: Christian Nation?
Actually, the "country" was founded as what appears to have been genuinely animist. It was much, much later violently turned into nominally christian, then somewhat later still again violently turned into nominally secular.
