I feel terrible for the people involved, but is anyone in the congregation going to question how this was part of god's plan? I can't imagine what next Sunday's church service is going to look like.I was NOT the first one to bring up religion. The OP was constructed as such. Next I was called prideful for being compassionate. You may deal with your feelings as you wish, but you will not be allowed to passively, aggressively, judge me for my humane expression. ETA: I take that back... Judge me as you like, apparently. But I have not judged you, and you'll be hard-pressed to present where I have, as such, apart from your perception based upon your own experience. If my observations have challenged you, then perhaps your complaint is not with me. If 20 people bash religion in this thread it's OK, but if one person defends the heavier issue he's being self-righteous? Seriously?
I didn't say you were the first. Also, not everyone is talking about the religious aspect... not even close to twenty. Sorry you're offended I called you out, but you were perpetuating the religious aspect, and then admonishing people for discussing it. You can have the last word. I've said my piece.

After reading all the replies, let me say that I value everyone's comments. You all appear to be in the pursuit of a better way of being and communicating. Clearly an intelligent group of people. I can respect anyone that is trying to elevate the conversation and I will explore my attitude towards theists. After wasting my time and energy as a Theist, I've probably have a little divineness in me. Perhaps someone was insightful enough to see that. However, I'm sure some people feel they have the right and the desire to be devise. Shaman just doesn't like to see Atheism applied that way.
I haven't been an atheist long enough to know what type of atheist I am, but the dialogue and ideas are helping me understand where I stand. I have so many questions so I will apologize in advance for using this forum as a means to evolve in my understanding of truth.
Ha, they will find some excuse, to make their selves feel better about the killing of their child.
How about the most patronising and banal excuse of them all: "Well clearly, it was that child's time to die."
That's gotta be in there at some point.
At the age of five, Skagra decided emphatically that God did not exist. This revelation tends to make most people in the universe who have it react in one of two ways - with relief or with despair. Only Skagra responded to it by thinking, 'Wait a second. That means there's a situation vacant.'

Oh fuck, yeah. That one always makes me throw up in my mouth.
