I'm glad you guys all have medical degrees. Here I was thinking EP likely made a decision without thinking it through and will now face the consequences and come back and keep trying to do the right thing. Whatever that is, because I certainly don't always know.

Lucky us we've got a fair amount of psychiatrists on the board to tell us how it really went down.

I'm glad you guys all have medical degrees.

But you know you don't have to have medical degrees to have some empathy. Only suffering from a condition yourself is more than sufficient to know that reality isn't always what it seems to be.

Just a thought for someone jumping to the conclusion that EP is a bad person. And no, I'm, not usually as indulgent. Only when their post record shows that they're desperate to make some positive impression and fail miserably on the way.

Likely I'm just being a huge asshole. I just hate when people presume to diagnose someone, especially someone they don't know, completely unsolicited. Sure say you have empathy for him. Sure say you try to withold judgement because you know what it's like to not always have the best grasp on acceptable behavior. I sure as hell know how that can be. I just hate the medical diagnosis. By all means, don't stop on my account. Just understand I might not be able to help myself saying some snarky comment. I'm fairly easily ignored though I can't actually be placed on ignore. So should only be a slight inconvenience.

I have a lot of compassion for EP, regardless of his behavior, and I'm not ashamed to say that. I even think I have a lot of similarites to him, I can relate to him somewhat. We can both be overanayltical for instance.

Yes, his behavior was unnaceptable. Yes he can be a dick, so can I, so can we all.

I'm glad he is banned for now, and I hope he learns to behave himself better when he returns.

His post about Ivy was against the rules and unnacceptable, especially so when she's going through hard stuff as it is (By the way, Ivy is one of my greatest friends in the world): I hope he learns his lesson and never does it again. But I still have compassion and empathy for him.

Losty is absolutely right about the diagnosis thing. I sometimes say shit like "I wonder if so and so might have X" diagnosis and I always make it super clear it's just my opinion and I don't really know anything, I've only read about stuff, and I make such speculations about myself too.

But even though it's only given as an opinion sometimes... I think I have learned that yeah, it's rather out of line. I can understand why it bothers you Losty when people jump in with their opinion about diagnoses.

How come Losty is so damn wonderful? She's so fair to everyone.

I may be a bit too indulgent when it comes to him, but that's because he seems to have quite a few mental problems. As I said, he doesn't seem to have any social skills to speak of and really doesn't get what his statement do to others. He also seems to be quite slow on taking responses as being responses and keeps on asking. Unless you're obnoxious on purpose that points to being unable to walk in the shoes of others.

You're a better man than I, Abs. I see purpose in his bullshit; he's clearly smart enough to understand even points laid with dullness -- but at other times, seems to deliberately steer clear of understanding, as if it were an iceberg.

This pattern of obnoxiousness, followed by remorse, followed by shiny personality -- a pattern shown a few times now -- may well be a sign of mental disorder. It may also be a sign of someone comfortable working with manipulation as a tool of expression.

Me, I'm skeptical. Given the fact that anyone can be anything online -- and I've seen hucksters, grifters, and sociopaths working the crowd -- his unsteady character elicits a little sympathy, but more suspicion, in me.
