I guess that would depend on why the thread was closed. If it was offensive then it should be deleted.
if it was a technicality then maybe it could stay?

I can see why they delete calling out threads. Even if no one is able to comment on it once it is closed, if it stays up, the targeted members are still being called out.
"Of course, everyone will claim they respect someone who tries to speak the truth, but in reality, this is a rare quality. Most respect those who speak truths they agree with, and their respect for the speaking only extends as far as their realm of personal agreement. It is less common, almost to the point of becoming a saintly virtue, that someone truly respects and loves the truth seeker, even when their conclusions differ wildly."

Calling out threads have always been deleted. I made one and it got deleted a few months back.

Here are two examples of threads that were closed but not deleted for problems of calling out. Perhaps in general they were deleted in the past, but I don't think I'm imagining that many used to be left up and only closed.

I think the general rule is to delete threads for calling out. As far as I know this has been the case since at least 2013 when I joined and made a thread about Drich which was then deleted. Occasionally, for whatever reason threads end up not being deleted, whether it’s because the thread generated good discussion or because we believed it to be fairly harmless or even because we just forgot that we usually delete threads for calling out.

I’m not sure we have a specific policy. I think we usually vote on whether it’s generated discussion that we can warrant storing on the site or if it’s just back and forth about the calling out, which really just takes up space. We do have a general policy of keeping hard thread deletions to a bare minimum, though.

No judgement, just a question. Could the thread have been moved to R'lyeh?
I don't have an anger problem, I have an idiot problem.

If we did that what would even be the point of the no calling out rule? Basically anyone could call out as long as the thread was in r’lyeh

OK, now confused. Is "calling out" something different from "personal attack"?

https://atheistforums.org/thread-4565.html

Edujumakate me please.

Edit: Maybe the thread started out in R'lyeh to begin with, not sure.

Edit Edit: In the long run it really does not matter. You can just tell me to fuck off and I'll be fine with that.

Calling out is when you create a thread aimed at a specific person. A personal attack is just attack someone personally. So long as it’s not in the OP it’s not considered calling out.
