I'm of mixed feelings about Frods. He was a game playing asshole, but damn, never thought it would come to this.
And I can understand John's opinion. Not saying I agree with it; that would take some hard thinking. But from my experience on another forum, it's hard to shake the impression of bias sometimes. That he chooses to vent such opinions in an appropriate manner is to be lauded, not condemned. RE: Peanut Gallery Commentary on the Staff Log of Bannings and such like.

If I were to create self aware beings knowing fully what they would do in their lifetimes, I sure wouldn't create a HELL for the majority of them to live in infinitely! That's not Love, that's sadistic. Therefore a truly loving god does not exist!
Quote:The sin is against an infinite being (God) unforgiven infinitely, therefore the punishment is infinite. Dead wrong. The actions of a finite being measured against an infinite one are infinitesimal and therefore merit infinitesimal punishment. Quote:Some people deserve hell. I say again: No exceptions. Punishment should be equal to the crime, not in excess of it. As soon as the punishment is greater than the crime, the punisher is in the wrong. So, I stopped, as the bias was (and still is) apparent. I think this is the problem here, and it's emblematic of what's gone wrong in John's brain: he made some reports, got back votes from us for no action, and then decided based solely on the fact that we disagreed with him on that (I'd also hasten to mention that, generally, a mod reply for a no action report will come with an explanation as to why we think that way) that we must be biased. The idea that he might have just submitted some non-actionable reports didn't even cross his mind, by the looks of things. No, that would indicate that he was wrong, and we can't have that. So we must just be biased, and out to get him and his religion, because there's simply no reason anybody could disagree with John's position on anything, he's clearly always right, so... we must just hate him!

At the age of five, Skagra decided emphatically that God did not exist. This revelation tends to make most people in the universe who have it react in one of two ways - with relief or with despair. Only Skagra responded to it by thinking, 'Wait a second. That means there's a situation vacant.'

Also to re-iterate what we've said previously, we won't ban people right off the bat for bitching about things, even if they lie and misrepresent the context whilst doing it. At least not as a stand alone complaint. Love atheistforums.org? Consider becoming a patreon and helping towards our server costs.

I actually dropped my iphone in the bath once (because to be away from it long enough to bathe? No way!) I jumped out grabbed a towel (for the phone not me) ran through the house naked poured a zip lock bag of rice and put my phone in sealed tight. 12 hours later my phone worked fine. I will disclose that in the midst of the frodo fiasco, there was significant disagreement on what action to take, if any. It had actually gotten to the point where we were going to settle on a final warning. This was something we had up for vote and was a much more palatable option to the ban. Most of us were legitimately torn on it. We have every report we've ever handled on archive, and this one was the seventh-most discussed here, all-time. He would probably have made it out with a warning if not for the flurry of specious reports he dropped overnight. That took it from breaking the rules to showing open contempt for the rules. And really, that is clearly what was going on. He was calling our bluffs over and over again, all but daring us to enforce the rules we all have to abide by.
There is only one reason that he is banned now, and it is because he started breaking multiple rules repeatedly, and refused to stop even after we made it clear that he had gone too far with it. Combined with the distinguished rap sheet he had already accumulated, including at least one temp ban, we had a choice to make, and I'll quote my words on the subject directly: Quote:I think we have to take action of some kind. Otherwise, we look inconsistent, and even as if we're playing favorites, because we aren't enforcing the rules on him the way that we do on everyone who does stuff like this. And he will be encouraged to keep on doing it. And when we ban someone else for the same behavior, we'll look like censors to him. |
