Are home surveillance systems sketchy?

Something happened at work today that made super fucking sketchy about a newer product we are selling. Its a full home security and monitering system that can allow you to even remotely control things like your thermostat. It can tell you when someone left your house or if your door is locked. Today I asked the client that I would be selling this behalf of weather or not there was any kind of plan in place to prevent/contain it if a employee decided to abuse this monitoring system and use it to stalk people. I was told that this was a inappropriate question. I can't reveal any more info since this is a professional matter, but its been in my mind since I left work.
