Why So Serious?

Why So Serious?
In my 24 years as a Christian, I was surrounded by negativity. Control yourself because you're evil. I remember seeing a father tell his little girl (with excessive anger), "I'm tired of your shit!" My mother (a Christian) asked rhetorically, "now do you think that child will grow up cursing?" I mentally replied, "I'd be more worried about her father being abusive." My own father is abusive, and is constantly negative toward everything. My mom passed away last year; now the world is "empty." I find myself wishing he'd go meet my mom sometimes. Unfortunately, he's not the only one. In my experience, Christians are proud of being known for their biases and hatred, and especially their narrow-minded thinking.

Why would you be proud of that?

Maybe you shouldn't generalize so much.

They know no better, they are also afraid of something, it could be death, or something they did once that made them feel guilty.

I wish I was generalizing. In all that time, I met two Christians who didn't live in a mire of negativity, and still practiced what they preached. They were the exception, rather than the very common rule.

What generalising? The OP CLEARLY states, "In my experience".

There was no statement of "all Christians".

And I doubt he has even met at least 1% of all Christians

http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/generalize
gen·er·al·ize
verb \ˈjen-rə-ˌlīz, ˈje-nə-\
: to make a general statement or form a general opinion; especially : to state an opinion about a larger group that is based on a smaller number of people or things within that group

Also in reference to the op, there will be plenty of so-call christian that don't make it into heaven, the Bible gives the example of only two people making it to the promised land out of two million.

It isn't hard to imagine. They live in a world of unthinking should. There can be no joy in that.

That isn't my experience. What I've seen is that those Christians who practice bigotry realize that their views aren't shared, and they will take pains to cover up those views unless for some reason they believe they're in company that they think might be receptive.

When I lived in Southern California, I had a Christian neighbor who was nice as you could ask for, and then one day she found out I was from Texas. I had to ask her to quit with the racial epithets, as they were flowing freely from her mouth. It seemed clear to me that she felt as if she would have a sympathetic ear; she was clearly taken aback when I pointed out how offensive her speech was to me, a member of a multiracial family.

She clearly wasn't proud of her views once they faced pushback.

She's not the only bigot I've known who has taken pains to hide their bigotry.

And just to be clear, I'm not arguing that all Christians are bigots, because I know that not all are.

I don't know....you're a pompous ass. Seems to me that you're fairly representative of sanctimonious sonsofbitches.
