Now that this precedent is set....how many other corporations are going to be pouring astronomical amounts of money toward lobbying congress to mandate laws that their products get the same treatment.
You progressives gave the government all the power and then you bitch when people try to take advantage of that concentrated power. Your utter stupidity makes me sick.
I have to be honest, the "does God exist" question aside....this Republican v Democrat argument is about as tiresome as, well, me actually.
Heywood, I'm assuming you're a republican right? Do you agree with EVERY policy and decision made by that party? Same question for Democrats....... all this blase generalisation just feeds the animals in charge because you never end up discussing policies, you're always simply trying to get one up on, or just outt argue the other side....whether the point of view you hold is the correct one, or if you even agree with it, seems to pale into insignificance compared to getting one over on the other side.
Which is exactly what your news stations and, at a guess, your politicians want.
I really do find it baffling.
The republicans would toss me out of their tent if they knew my positions. I'm hardly a republican.

The problem with your first statement is that you've assumed I think the Affordable Care Act is the best thing ever. It isn't. Real progressives want single-payer. That wasn't going to happen. And you're right, corporations are going to pour huge sums of money into greedy lawmaker pockets, and that's even easier now since corporations are "people", thanks to the right's victory with Citizens United. Conservatives open up the door for an unprecedented, unchecked level of corporate money in politics and then you complain about said money? Sounds hypocritical to me.

HA!
I cannot tell you how many times I have heard that crap "I am not like the others" while clearly compartmentalizing and completely delusional, either flat out lying or unaware that the very things you say you are against you support.
You have done this crap with economics, and you have done this with race issues too.
Yes you mean what you say until called out on it, then it doesn't mean what you say.

As an aside, could you not quote the entire post you're responding to?
(December 4, 2014 at 12:56 pm)Hoopington Wrote: Yes, it is a shame that language evolves.......... A tragedy actually, since we've expanded that word to the point where it doesn't mean anything aside from "something sad". We can disagree on this point but it really irks me that we're seeing words pulled apart and expanded to the point where they don't mean anything. I like precision in my vocabulary. Words are important means of communicating ideas.
As we might have learned from the book "1984", watering down the vocabulary is a useful step in dumbing down the public. It may also be symptomatic. As our word use becomes sloppy, it may be an indication of how our critical thinking has become sloppy.
Quote:Your meaningless essay regarding your views on grammar, however much I may agree in principle, are irrelevant.
The original point made was regarding your assertion that this was a tragedy, I disagree. Sad? Very. Avoidable? Absolutely. Tragedy? Not even close.
Actually, using the watered-down definition, which has tragically been added to the dictionary under the theory that the dictionary should literally address the common abuse of a word, yes.
Someone died. It was sad. Therefore, it's a "tragedy" according to the new definition of the word.

I've said elsewhere the he an ATheist represent a cross-section of the GOP. ATheist is the hard-core base while Heywood is the "I'm an independent, not a Republican, and both sides both sides both sides both sides both sides" pseudo-centrist who runs cover for Republicans like ATheist. It's a curious symbiotic relationship. Neither could exist without the other.

Single payer wasn't going to happen with the democrat leadership whipping against it when Sanders was going to propose his amendment. You progressives got sold out by the people you vote for.
