Partially functional or dysfunctional thyroid gland is one of the major issues here ...
Did not read you essay (well, I did glance through it), how big focus on this particular connection with obesity you had in it ?

The thyroid gland secretes hormones, and yes it is a well established link to weight loss or gain. In fact rapid weight loss or gain is one such symptom associated with diagnosing the conditions of an under-active or over-active thyroid.

The WIN/Gallup End of Year Survey 2013 found the US was perceived to be the greatest threat to world peace by a huge margin, with 24% of respondents fearful of the US followed by: 8% for Pakistan, and 6% for China. This was followed by 5% each for: Afghanistan, Iran, Israel, North Korea. -LINK

I agree with this, but too many people are using this as an excuse, "Oh its my hormones", you hear it all the time, we have to be careful not to feed that excuse.

It isn't an excuse, it's science. Put simply: when obese people lose weight they feel terrible and then they regain the weight and now we know why, and it isn't their fault. Your victim-blaming approach is wrong.

Your way of thinking is harmful to many people, who only need to eat less, how hard is that. Of course there are some that have an unbalanced hormone system, but I would say that these are very low. Are you trying to protect yourself or someone, is it personal to you ?.

No, it's not personal to me. I'm stating the facts, you're using so-called "common sense", not science.
Also, your advice is dead-wrong. People don't need to "eat less" to avoid obesity, they need to eat differently.

Yes that can be true also, but food is the biggest cause, that's why you don't see big fat people in starving parts of the world.

We don't see them in Japan either and Japan is hardly a starving nation. Are you telling me that you think the Japanese have more self-discipline than other first world countries when it comes to food?

Well they did, but I think its starting to change, with the western food influencing the younger generations.

The obesity rate here in Australia, the USA and UK is around 25-30%. In Japan it's 3%. How do you explain that by individual behaviour? Or are you now acknowledging it's the food and not the people that is to blame?
