Kloud | A Young Atheist

RE: Kloud | A Young Atheist
Hello, kiddo.

Welcome to the forums. Hope you stick around. Seems we get a couple of young people that start strong then fade away. Stick around!
"There remain four irreducible objections to religious faith: that it wholly misrepresents the origins of man and the cosmos, that because of this original error it manages to combine the maximum servility with the maximum of solipsism, that it is both the result and the cause of dangerous sexual repression, and that it is ultimately grounded on wish-thinking." ~Christopher Hitchens, god is not Great

Hello

Lost my interest in religion about the same time you did. Took me longer to call myself an atheist though.

Welcome Kloud!

Early college sounds exciting, do you already know what kind of major you're interested in?

p.s. quite possible that there are more atheists at your school that are firmly in the closet...

I'm 13 years old and I became an Atheist when I was 11. Not every one I know, knows I'm an Atheist, but my mother and older brother do. my close friends know and It's spread throughout the school a bit, I use to have an atheist friend in 7th grade but he moved, so I now go to a school surrounded by Ignorant Christians. I don't want to go too in depth on my conversion story, as I'll save that for the proper section Big Grin I'm a normal teenage for the most part, except I'm really Tech Saavy which is like really out of the ordinary since I live in a really country part of the US. I don't play any sports as I'm quite scrawny. I hope to be really active on here and meet some cool people, If you have any questions about me, ask them below

Hello.

It's extraordinary to read posts like this where atheism is spoken about like it is some kind of abnormality. I am frequently astonished by the lack of tolerance in some parts of the US toward people who assert that they do not believe deities exist.

It's such an alien concept to living here in the UK, where no one really cares what your position on god - or the lack of one - is, we all just get on with it, mostly.

"I think I use the term “radical” rather loosely, just for emphasis. If you describe yourself as “atheist,” some people will say, “Don’t you mean ‘agnostic’?” I have to reply that I really do mean atheist, I really do not believe that there is a god; in fact, I am convinced that there is not a god (a subtle difference). I see not a shred of evidence to suggest that there is one ... etc., etc. It’s easier to say that I am a radical atheist, just to signal that I really mean it, have thought about it a great deal, and that it’s an opinion I hold seriously." - Douglas Adams (and I echo the sentiment)

I remember overhearing conversations in the south along the lines of "Have you met the new guy at work?", "No, what's he like?", "Well, he seems to be a good guy, he's Christian". That can really fuck with your perception if you're exposed to it 24/7.

Turns out that there are some more atheists at my school, but they prefer to call themselves Evolutionists, It make senses though considered I'm in the grade where they are required to teach evolution, which is making more people come out of the closet and feel more comfortable, as an Atheist myself, I'm starting to feel proud that all the little Jesus lovers are converting, and that one kid who never talks about religion came out as an atheist.
