Say for instance they advertise having truth but do not give truth they could get sued for that. But can they be sued over false claims that require faith and belief. because if that could happen i would be amazed. Think of a random person who said religion made my life worse and lists of why and how it did because there is some use of threats and that being said the threat is hell and well that is a form of abuse.
Try them.
People in the States sue for all kinds of reasons.
I assume you'd be suing a specific church, since the religion itself has so many different variants you couldn't really sue the "religion".

It's been done. Pavel M, filed a lawsuit against the Romanian Orthodox Church, as God's representatives in Romania, for failing to keep him from the Devil, claiming that his baptism had been a binding contract.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lawsuits_against_God The court dismissed on the grounds that the church was not neither an individual nor a company and therefore not subject to the court's jurisdiction.
And here in the U.S. State Senator Ernie Chambers went straight to the top and filed a suit against God, seeking a permanent injunction against God's harmful activities. Ultimately that was dismissed for failure to properly service God with the summons and complaint.

Also dismissed for lack of personal jurisdiction Gerald Mayo's case against the "Satan and his Staff."

I wonder if we can form an anti-stupidity religion and get tax-free benefits too...
There was this bollywood movie last year specifically about suing GOD (of every religion), called "Oh My GOD". The plot was great if you are not too bothered about weird songs, and can live through reading loads of subtitles.
