how to change from islam to atheist

I am from india. I was a muslim,I know atheism is lack of belief and everything. Ive been atheist for while and still is, But i was born as a muslim and my certificates and every data still says i am a muslim.

After 16th's incident i no longer want to be a muslim even in certificates.
Can i change it? I like to leave it blank or put atheist in it..
But i dont want to be a muslim... If i travel to foreign countries they will still treat me a muslim and As i am and atheist why i should get into all that drama.

Somebody please help me here.

Hello, welcome to the forums You are very brave indeed. I'm not familiar with the legal implications of the forms you talk about, but I know that you should be able to come to a free country and be treated as an atheist. No matter what any piece of paper may say that India is enforcing, no one (except mental zealots) is going to hold you to it. No one can force you to be a Muslim (in free countries) so I imagine it should be possible to erase it somehow.

I hope someone else with more knowledge about this can help in more detail. But a big welcome, and congratulations on growing up so fast

That's what I like about our European passports. There's nothing about denomination it them. Just the bare facts, picture, date of birth and height.

No idea what the Indian laws are concerning documentation. Sorry, can't help you there.

Sure, I mean, say you came to live in a European country and to a lesser extent USA (heavy Christianity pressures) it simply doesn't matter what anyone else says your religion is. No matter what forms someone made when you were born, you're free to be any religion or no religion. For example, I'm in England, and I have no idea what religion most people are. And they don't ask me either. It's just not an issue. No one will force you to go to any sort of mosque or whatever, or do any rituals, or wear any particular clothing.

I can undestand that if all you have known is religion being forced on you, this may come as rather a surprise! But hopefully a pleasant one.

I'd like to add that the idea of someone being "born" a Muslim (or any other religion) is disgusting. Any country which practices this kind of thing is in the dark ages as far I'm concerned.

I'm curious, what exactly made you lose your faith? And why did you choose atheism? Just a curious fellow atheist

I want to add that I feel indoctrination is not that different morally from having sex with a minor. You're imposing something on them that they can't understand fully, can't give real consent to, and will affect them for the rest of their life.

We have an age of consent for sex, I think we should have one for religion. If you think your kid will not join your religion unless you force it on them when they are young, what does that tell you? If you think they still will, then back off and let them decide. Tell them what you believe, but don't tell them what to believe.

If you think religion is important as part of an upbringing, you are even more fucking deluded. If you can't explain to your kids why some things are wrong without having to resort to "it will upset an invisible man" then you need serious parenting classes.

Once you get out of India- provided you do not choose a backward nation- that stuff doesn't go on any identity card or license.

I think most Imams can handle a conversion from Islam to dead, but Islam to atheist is going to be difficult, they are going to insist on dead.
