Don't worry, my friend.  If this be the end, then so shall it be.

It's based upon the general interaction between the right and left in the United States, at least for those in the American left. The rightwing have many groups that they hate, fear and wish to destroy or marginalize, and Muslims are just one of that bunch. They forget that radical Islam is basically the same cast of characters believing in a different false god.

It's one of the areas in which I disagree with most liberals, many of whom will also overlook many of Christianity's ugly aspects in order to promote the few good messages to be found in it.

I don't consider myself left or right wing (although others would be able to pigeon hole me I suspect), I don't follow a party or a club or a doctrine, I just believe what I believe and usually I can find what I want in many different parties, even alleged extreme ones.

So my point, let's take the recent horrific Islamist attack in an Aussie café. It's clearly wrong to take and kill hostages. It's clearly done in the name of a religion. So what's with the hashtag #illridewithyou?

Seems like the victims of this atrocity has become muslims, and not the two members of staff that died, and the other folk caught up in the horrible event.

My question is what is "the left" and why does it make excuses for such actions?

The truth of this situation seems to be a disgruntled man who took it out on innocent people using some Islamic fundamentalist crusade as a cover for his inability to deal with a self-made situation. The man was an inept moron with access to a gun.

It has almost nothing to do with left or right wing politics.

"I think I use the term “radical” rather loosely, just for emphasis. If you describe yourself as “atheist,” some people will say, “Don’t you mean ‘agnostic’?” I have to reply that I really do mean atheist, I really do not believe that there is a god; in fact, I am convinced that there is not a god (a subtle difference). I see not a shred of evidence to suggest that there is one ... etc., etc. It’s easier to say that I am a radical atheist, just to signal that I really mean it, have thought about it a great deal, and that it’s an opinion I hold seriously." - Douglas Adams (and I echo the sentiment)

So why do we need a left and a right wing these days? that's about money, surely?
Can't we now go on a right or wrong mission... ?
Taking hostages is wrong.... religious aggression is wrong
C'mon people wake up FFS
PS if you're about to post a reply and your response is going to be negative, improper, average, odd, obtuse, irrational, an argument, might change the focus, going off at a tangent or just mean ... go and find a maths forum to post on instead, they'll love you !!

What makes you think the left is apologizing for that incident?

Because "apologizing to terrorists" has been a favorite right wing slander for decades.

And every time Obama backs down to Republicans, he justifies that slander a little bit.
