Am I correctly inferring then, that if the Islamists wanted the Catholic church to back off some item of dogma or doctrine, the church would be susceptible to similar violence and would cave on the issue ???

All these sects of Christianity have been blasting the middle east for it's religious violence and rightfully so, but will gang up with them as soon as you turn your blasphemy on them.

The are not concerned with blasphemy of Islam, they are worried about that freedom being used on their claims.
