Atheist Pastors!

RE: Atheist Pastors!
Doesn't sound like a bad gig to stay in and talk about some fiction you have memorized. I wish I could get paid for all the Marvel/Star Wars shit I know.
I can't remember where this verse is from, I think it got removed from canon:

"I don't hang around with mostly men because I'm gay. It's because men are better than women. Better trained, better equipped...better. Just better! I'm not gay."

For context, this is the previous verse:

"Hi Jesus" -robvalue

Well, just imagine that you spent your whole life living like Luke Skywalker and Spiderman were real people, and your entire life was invested in the fact that they were real. Then you eventually come to realize that the whole thing isn't real, and realized the life you used to know is dead. The last thing you'd want to do is be stuck in a job that forced you to pretend like they were real again.

Kind of like a weather man.

What was the deal with that interview?

Well, first off, it was in defense of something stupid. The Freedom From Religion organization had filed a lawsuit against a restaurant that offered a 10% discount on their bill if the person took time for a prayer. It was a small restaurant (that I think was in the middle of nowhere), so not only is that pretty trivial, it turns out you could get the discount for a whole host of different things, like just taking a moment of silence. No prayer was actually needed.

But he also came across as bumbling when he attempted, and completely failed, to justify the lawsuit. The interviewer, the new tall guy with the giant forehead, made him look like an idiot.

I did't immediately see the interview on youtube, but I'm sure you can find it to see for yourself.

That's an interesting point. While the guys are waiting for the right moment to abandon ship, they could take the opportunity to sneak in some critical thinking and objective assessment. If done carefully, it could help shake off some of the dust from the listener's brain cells and get them working. I wouldn't be surprised to hear that some of them do this.

xpastor, an infrequent member here, can give personal insight.

As if giving up long held beliefs wasn't struggle enough, I empathize with those that then must struggle with how to step away. In addition to the impact to personal relationships I have to imagine most, if not all, have a significant emotional investment in their congregations that doesn't simply disappear because of their new found atheism.

This is true of deeply-involved members of the congregation as well. Losing my faith meant losing my community, and all of my friends.
