This gullibility is how ALL religions get started. It is why Scientology exists. It is why con man and convicted criminal Joseph Smith was able to start Mormonism.

And even outside religion, it is why people fell for the "balloon boy" scam. It is why people believe that Ouija Boards work. It is why people believe in big foot and crop circles.

Now you think I am being mean to you in saying that? Blunt yes, mean, no.

I say this to get you to consider all the other religious claims of others that you rightfully reject and know are absurd, as I do, and aim that logic at your own claims.

That self introspection is healthy, not bad.

I wonder if it wasn't a bit more than that....like having daddy see dollar signs. No one loses money selling shit to gullible xtians.

Maybe there's hope for you yet. You've exercised critical thinking skills you probably never knew you had
At the age of five, Skagra decided emphatically that God did not exist.  This revelation tends to make most people in the universe who have it react in one of two ways - with relief or with despair.  Only Skagra responded to it by thinking, 'Wait a second.  That means there's a situation vacant.'

nah, more likely it's just that the completely unsubstantiated bullshit in the book didn't line up with the completely unsubstantiated bullshit he already believed in. He dismissed it for the same reason he dismisses Islam, which is the same reason he dismisses science.

What about the following:

90 Minutes in Heaven - Don Piper
Heaven is for Real - Todd Burpo
23 Minutes in Hell - Bill Wiese
I Went to Hell - Kenneth Hagen
To Heaven and Back - Mary Neal
My Time in Heaven - Sigmund Richard
My Journey to Heaven - Marvin J. Besteman
Waking up in Heaven - Crystal McVea

Are these taken seriously by the "Christian community"? Do you dismiss them also?

If you do or do not dismiss them, what is the criteria you are using?

You'd believe if you just opened your heart" is a terrible argument for religion. It's basically saying, "If you bias yourself enough, you can convince yourself that this is true." If religion were true, people wouldn't need faith to believe it -- it would be supported by good evidence.

We do give every theist here a hard time and other religions too. What we are doing is getting them for the most part, used to blasphemy not being a call for their deaths, which they already know or should know.

But it is also to get them to equate their rejections of others claims to see that we agree with them rejecting others claims and suggest they aim that criticism at themselves.

I have met many former believers over the years who were frightened of atheists who after they realized they got it wrong, ended up relieved that they no longer had to defend their complicated myths.

I myself at the time I first got online, .even though I was an atheist, feared what others might think if they found out, and even thought "what if I am joining a cult".

It really is a relief for many to finally realize there is no bearded man or guy with a pitchfork battling over the neurons in your head.

It surprises believers, and even with his admission they will come up with some bullshit conspiracy as to why. "The devil made him do it". Or liberal media.

The part that pisses me off is even MSNBC and CNN almost make it a law that every time someone makes these claims no one is allowed to be skeptical about them.

All of them were hoaxes to make money.
Atheism is a non-prophet organization join today.
