Checked out at "anti-psychotics."
I've asked often enough for someone to distinguish for me the difference between visions and hallucinations. How do you tell it isn't all in your head. I think I got tired of the evasions and ignored the further excuses and evasions.

I was put on antipsychotics for a time, which is still a complete mystery to me and people who know me. I've never acted in any way that could be interpreted as psychotic.
At the age of five, Skagra decided emphatically that God did not exist. This revelation tends to make most people in the universe who have it react in one of two ways - with relief or with despair. Only Skagra responded to it by thinking, 'Wait a second. That means there's a situation vacant.'

Me neither, but I was prescribed them, too. Apparently, people with severe depression that are not experiencing psychosis can benefit from them, but they are extremely powerful drugs. The one I took really just numbed me, and not in a good way.

Meds that are categorized as "anti psychotic" can be used to treat a variety of symptoms. Alzheimer's and Bipolar Disorder to name a couple. In the case of the OP, I assume it is for the standard use.

Same here. I was on very strong anti-psychotics - for insomnia (I also had a very light RX for haloperidol for mild, infrequent psychosis). Last time I was in inpatient treatment, the staff shrink was prescribing Seroquel for anxiety, depression and other ailments. Hey, I'm not an M.D., but that seemed a little imprudent.

If mine only numbed me I wouldn't have minded, though of course I don't know your situation. Mine put me in hospital where I very nearly died.

Yikes, is that what caused it? My RX just turned me into a walking zombie for about a year. Had to take a leave of absence from work.

Well, as I recall - dimly - it was a combination of the antipsychotics and the antidepressants, or at least their "uncommon" side effects. Something like that anyway.

Ah, that sucks, Stimbo, but the numbess was horrible, too. It caused a cloud in my head that completely dulled my emotions. It was a few weeks before I was about to become a father for the first time, and I remember thinking about that and not feeling anything. No joy, no fear, absolutely no emotional reaction at all. I decided at that point that the numbess was worse than a large part of my experience with depression. It was a terrible experience.
The real kicker was having to quit it when it helped my insomnia like nothing else.

Man, I'm glad I'm not the only one.
