Relationship, direction, protection, forgiveness, being pushed into and beyond personal growth, accountability, tasks, gifts, responsiblities, getting to seed a field watch it grow and even in some cases reaping what I've sown. All of these things center around spiritual fruit, and the gifts of the Spirit, and what happens when one is faithful to what he has been given.

Theists, What Do You Get Out of Religion?

You should be proud of yourself and thankful that you were lucky enough to learn how to live a happier life, even if you haven't yet discovered that myth-making for moral purposes is an ancient psychological aid created for those such as yourself to benefit from (when not at others' expense, of course, which happens all too often unfortunately). Thank you, there's no myth to it though, God's responsible for my turn around not me, and I'm extremely thankful. Created for me is true, God looked down through history and saw my needs, supplied those things I needed to chose. GC
God loves those who believe and those who do not and the same goes for me, you have no choice in this matter. That puts the matter of total free will to rest.

Is too myth.

Watched the whole thing instead of painting the dining room. (sigh). To my mind the video reinforces my belief. In order to recognize a pattern, there must first be a pattern to recognize. I would like to point out that I see a distinction between instantiation and correspondence. First, people recognize commonalities in the things of their environment. For example, moving hot water from the faucet is the same substance as still cold water in a glass. Then on a semantic level, people create a word that corresponds to the idea of water present in the intellect.(February 6, 2015 at 4:40 pm)ChadWooters Wrote: The meaning of things come from recognition of the ideas they instantiate or some correspondence with those ideas. This video is fairly long, but the short of it is that they track the learning of a word through association. I realize that there are philosophical objections to empiricism, but doesn't this provide an alternative explanation of how meaning is developed, how words acquire meaning, by learning?

How? It relies on "faith" to believe it, so even those who believe it can't give any evidence. They invented a word for the lack of reason and evidence, then somehow marketed is as a good thing.
And so the dishonesty of apologetics is born from this brilliant, demonic scam. Feel free to send me a private message.

There's no difference between the Bible and other myths except that you're familiar with it and haven't looked at it with the same objective, critical eye you (hopefully) would when reading Homer, or Egyptian poetry, or Akkadian epics, etc... at least that wouldn't appear to be the case.

Right. Any other story featuring magic you would instantly label as myth. But because it's your favourite story, magic is OK.
