I recently started a podcast where I (an atheist) have discussions with a friend (who's Christian) and we have kinda good-natured debates about religious and theological issues. We've recorded six episodes, and I was really enjoying the chance to think through the positions I hold and see how they hold up against an opposing viewpoint, but now it looks like my co-host may not be able to continue. Even if he can, though, I'd still like to be exposed to more than one opposing viewpoint, because he hardly claims to speak for all of Christendom. Does anyone have any advice or suggestions on how best to get the word out that I'm looking for a theist to co-host a podcast with me?

I'd go to a theist forum, hang out and see who's reasonable and who isn't, and then go from there, if time allows.
If you don't know anyone personally, then shotgunning on the interwebs is really going to be your only solution. I don't know that we're going to be able to help you, but I like Pakers Tan's advice. Go to a theist forum/FB Group, and start asking questions. Hopefully someone halfway reasonable will respond and you can move on from there.
"There remain four irreducible objections to religious faith: that it wholly misrepresents the origins of man and the cosmos, that because of this original error it manages to combine the maximum servility with the maximum of solipsism, that it is both the result and the cause of dangerous sexual repression, and that it is ultimately grounded on wish-thinking." ~Christopher Hitchens, god is not Great

Can you recommend any specific forums?
Google is your friend. I am only a member of one other forum, and that's a Pittsburgh Steelers forum. I wouldn't be able to tell you on way or the other.

Uhh, hey, welcome!
Would you kindly send me a PM with a link to your podcast? I love podcasts.
"Every luxury has a deep price. Every indulgence, a cosmic cost. Each fiber of pleasure you experience causes equivalent pain somewhere else. This is the first law of emodynamics [sic]. Joy can be neither created nor destroyed. The balance of happiness is constant.
Fact: Every time you eat a bite of cake, someone gets horsewhipped. Facter: Every time two people kiss, an orphanage collapses. Factest: Every time a baby is born, an innocent animal is severely mocked for its physical appearance. Don't be a pleasure hog. Your every smile is a dagger. Happiness is murder. Vote "yes" on Proposition 1321. Think of some kids. Some kids."
I guess there's an outside chance one of the theists here would help, but I don't know if they would be what you're looking for.

Well, the upside would be that if they're here, that means they do already have an interest in discussion with atheists. But I haven't been here long enough to know what kind of tone they have. I do require some degree of civility.

Well...
I would recommend Lek as the most likely candidate. I find him the most reasonable and polite by far. I violently disagree with almost everything he says, but I respect the way he presents himself. Feel free to send me a private message.

You have our favorite Muslim: rayaan.
Used to be admin here, too... He gave up due to lack of time, or something like that. But he's still around. |
