Making money out of cretins

RE: Making money out of cretins
I remember reading about someone who had a business to care for pets if their owners were raptured.
Only two things are infinite, the universe and human stupidity, and I'm not sure about the former.

You mean this:

http://www.aftertherapturepetcare.com

If my memory is right, that is the one I saw some years ago.

From a quick search, I also found:

http://www.postrapturepetcare.com

There may be others.

If you don't think this is happening already in every store you walk into, I have a bridge to sell you.

Capitalism is built on the assumption that all of us are too stupid to know whether or not we actually need the shit these companies are selling us. It's the marketing department's job to convince us that we do. Religion and woo doesn't even have to enter into it - the prevalence of Kuerigs is example enough.

I occasionally feel the temptation to profit from people's gullibility. I think the more outrageous my claim, the less guilty I would feel about fleecing the saps who fall for it.

Then I'd find some poor soul with senile dementia got ripped off by me, and I would feel terrible about it.
I'm not anti-Christian. I'm anti-stupid.

Dear Christians... errr... the denominations, that believe in the Rapture anyway!

I'm going to start Post Rapture Animal Control. If you want - for a reasonable fee - after the Rapture, I'm going to take care of your beloved pets. By that I mean - I will hunt down them down and bludgeon them to death. I might do it for free anyway, out of pure spite, for not having been saved by Jeebus. So, please - make sure you don't f*** up and miss out on the Rapture, or it may to be a very awkward meeting, over the twitching, bloody carcass of Spot, Fifi, or Piddles...

But it does prey on the human ego in a pretty clever way. It would not surprise me if a lot of the people who might pay for this service do so on the subconscious belief that doing so guarantees that they'll be raptured.
"Well, evolution is a theory. It is also a fact. And facts and theories are different things, not rungs in a hierarchy of increasing certainty. Facts are the world's data. Theories are structures of ideas that explain and interpret facts. Facts don't go away when scientists debate rival theories to explain them. Einstein's theory of gravitation replaced Newton's in this century, but apples didn't suspend themselves in midair, pending the outcome. And humans evolved from ape- like ancestors whether they did so by Darwin's proposed mechanism or by some other yet to be discovered."
