I used to take divers and snorkelers out to the Christ of the Abyss statue in Key Largo, Florida when I was a dive boat captain. An occasional woman would pose for pictures with Jesus - sometimes minus a bikini top - which was a very bad move. The statue had fire coral growing all over it which will hurt like hell and leave a nasty welt if you brush against it. I always warned them that they would get a religious experience they weren't counting on if they got touchy-feely with Jesus. It wasn't always heeded.
Only two things are infinite, the universe and human stupidity, and I'm not sure about the former.

I'm going to go out on a limb and say whatever the case with the religion this shrine belongs to, their holy text probably doesn't have much to say in terms of lashing a person 100 times or lopping off a head.
