Cop Paralyzes Man In Alabama

https://news.vice.com/article/video-emer...indian-man
The police received a call that a suspicious, skinny, black man in a knit hat was wandering the neighborhood. Sureshbhai Patel's son had brought his father to the United States from India so that the man could help care for his new grandchild. Because Mr. Patel couldn't speak English, he didn't understand the police speaking to him so the police threw him to the ground. If you look at the second video, it looks like he actually went up in the air a bit.
The governor of Alabama is issuing an apology but I don't know how that will help with the family's medical bills now.
Quote:The Patel family's lawyer Hank Sherrod refuted claims that Sureshbhai was checking out people's garages or that he was on private property.
According to the lawyer, Patel was not digging in people's trash but I am not certain why anyone would think that was a good explanation for the cop's actions even if he was looking in other people's trashcans.

Ugh, police in Alabama. That poor dude couldn't have wound up in a worse situation.

Yeah, Min. had this in his "Fucking Cops" thread.
The man was guilty of WWB, walking while brown.

Hopefully they can sue the police dept and win. It's a very slim chance though.
I must admit that I was surprised to open this thread and see that it wasn't started by mini.

At around 1:45, you can see that the shove to the ground was not as gentle as the beginning animation makes it seem. The neighborhood looks like it has enough houses that the residents wouldn't know everyone. Why would they assume that someone going for a walk did not own a house there? It wouldn't be against the law even if someone wanted to take a walk in a neighbor that wasn't there own.

That is such a long thread that I don't open it because it would take me forever to catch up. I should have checked it out first, though.
I live on a dead end, dirt road with five families. If someone walks down my street, I noticed them but I assume that they are either lost or just enjoying a walk in the country. It wouldn't occur to me to call the cops on them.

But if you saw them doing something suspicious, you'd call the cops, yes?
To some people in Alabama, not being white is suspicious.

I see people doing suspicious shit all the time. I never call the cops. Some skinny guy looking in trash cans (if he even was) I personally might offer him some food. I can see someone yelling at him or telling him not to look in trash cans but calling the cops? I wouldn't.

Yeah, but I don't consider walking, jogging or being nonwhite suspicious. I like to go for long walks and discover new places on foot. Luckily, I am a white woman so I don't have to worry about walking while brown. If I was the wrong color, apparently, I would be in jail by now.

Me neither. That doesn't seem like dangerous behavior to me.
