I've had exactly one debate on Twitter. That may be the most irritating medium to argue on. I am too verbose, and 140 characters is not enough for me.

I wonder what would be worse for debates, Twitter or Vine? I contend Vine would be more entertaining...
"There remain four irreducible objections to religious faith: that it wholly misrepresents the origins of man and the cosmos, that because of this original error it manages to combine the maximum servility with the maximum of solipsism, that it is both the result and the cause of dangerous sexual repression, and that it is ultimately grounded on wish-thinking." ~Christopher Hitchens, god is not Great

And he's right! I for example believe I'll have a beer.

But us it RIGHT to have a beer? Is it your free will to have a beer or were you predestined to have a beer?

Don't bother debating Hindus, their religion comes packaged with the "free-to-cherrypick-and-ignore-rest" clause.

That's every religion. I actually want this more for Christians and Muslims to see. All of them claim science props up their old stories. It is all cherry picking and retrofitting. I just like switching it up too.

What would really be entertaining would be to get a Muslim, a Jesus-ist of some stripe and a Hindu all attempting to prove they are correct. Let them describe their epistemology and processes for "knowing" what they "know". Like a three-way cock fight. Popcorn indeed...

As for it being better to believe something than nothing. I'll give it a go. I believe:

1. I'm more handsomer than Brad Pitt in his glory days!

2. My John Thomas is god's gift to womankind!

3. I'm rich, smart and pretty!

4. Everything I say is a pearl of wisdom and should be written down for the ages!

There, that IS better than nothing. But not much...

Now I just got this "ok then leave aside term religion or worship or devotion. just say self-inquiry as in Platos soul"

No, Plato was no scientist either. No such thing as a soul for that matter.

People seem to mistake being open minded with accepting unsupported assertions. In fact, clinging to irrational beliefs is being closed minded. I hope he comes here for some debate Smile

How can you have a debate with just assertions? You just end up swapping assertions like baseball cards.
