I don't have enough faith to be an a-leprechaunist.
I'll answer this question in the popular theist fashion:
Well why are all theists liberals? Feel free to send me a private message.

If atheists think Christianity are filled with myths then why be concerned...unless of course Christians are busy trying to create a THEOCRATIC dystopia while irrationally supporting Israel (through the Zionistic lobby). Only a segment of atheists are liberals. If this is the case then the liberal atheists are not trying to get rid of "unwanted" citizens because they would believe in utilizing the state to help those citizens. "happiness" is really helping those in need so in the long run they do not rebel (create a nihilistic condition) where everyone's rights are destroyed. Atheism is not a faith! Unless you are a militant atheist and use the state to enforce the condition of "NO religion". Also, we are not anti-hetero(sexual) nor anti-Christian.
I'm always amused when people equate liberals with socialists forgetting that real socialists despise both classical liberalism and modern liberalism (because both ideologies promote and allow capitalism to exist).

I'm a fiscal conservative & a political pragmatist. I identify with what works (as best I or anyone can at least), not necessarily with any side of the spectrum (I guess I'd side more right than left, though). Ultimately though I'm egalitarian.
It's odd because obviously what we in Europe would define as 'socialist' is actually far left of what those in the US would deem to be 'socialist' (I presume). Any hint of state intervention in the US does appear to get a backlash from anyone even moderately conservative. I guess that's partially a symptom of federalism mixed with a general distrust of 'the man'? I dunno, my knowledge of American politics doesn't really extend that far. I'm generally in support of welfarism for example, but not at 'any' cost, and certainly not when the benefits start to be overtaken by the losses. But hey, that's another thread I guess.
