Why do you listen to the music you listen to?

RE: Why do you listen to the music you listen to?
The kind of music I listen to at a given time is a reflection of what is going on in my mind. Which probably explains why lately I don't listen to anything.

I tend to be drawn to music that expresses(at least to me) existential angst, which can run the gamut. I revel in the anger and frustration of Nine Inch Nails but also love the somber but pleasant sounds of Aphex Twin's more melodic tracks. Some of his music feels like a friend putting his hand on your shoulder and comforting you during a difficult time. Grunge music also really speaks to me because of this(I really am a 90's child).

I'm also very much drawn to the bass guitar and music that utilizes basslines well, which is one of the reasons industrial/electronic music is my favorite. If it grooves, I can't help but tap my foot.

I like music that reflects how I feel internally, a person struggling to cope with all of the pain and bullshit in the world that isn't afraid to say, "fuck it" and boogie down every once in a while.

I actually know... uh... every word to every one of their songs...... But not because I agree with what they mean but because I like their sound, they have no songs that disappoint me... instrumentally at least.

So why do you listen to the music you listen to?

I listen to jazz (mainly hard bop), indie (including lots of lo-fi) and drone. It all just depends on my mood, and/or how much I need to be woken up.

Because I enjoy the music? I mostly listen to 5 kinds of music - Rock music, Portuguese music (ranging from rock and roll to traditional folk songs etc), hip hop, pop and lately classical. Overall the first two genres are the ones I listen to the most (and lately classical) - Hip Hop and pop are kinds of music I listen to when I'm in a mood but I don't hold them on a pedestal - I do like Michael Jackson and some hip hop artists in particular. Since I'm not a musician, the best reply I can give is that music makes me happy and provides great emotional moments.
