Very enjoyable so far! (The location and cinematography are also cool). Did they botch the beginning a bit there though?
The only "complaint" I have is that the soloists are a bit of a mismatch to my ears, especially the two men. At times I get the impression that Wagner's Siegfried accidentally stumbled into a baroque oratorio. I think I remember seeing the soprano in Herreweghes productions and I love what she is doing here.

I thought it a bit odd that they used natural trumpets and trombones but modern woodwinds.  Gardiner, of course, goes for the whole 9 yards.

I understand that the minimalist composers can be very polarising. I remember once Chromecasting this early piece at the shop where I work, and having a woman I shared the workplace saying it hurts her ears. Then again, she called it "That clicking noise".

I'd love to one day shoot a video at the store with four percussionists playing Part I of Drumming with lollipops instead of mallets (of course, doing the other parts would be a lot less practical.)

Now something completely different. I just found out that apparently, Furtwängler performed Beethoven's Ninth on the occasion of Hitler's birthday in '42. How bizarre (in case you don't know, the lyrics in the end are, prominently and repeatedly, "Alle Menschen werden Brüder", all people become brothers). That must have been an obvious provocation. Or just a lot of cognitive dissonance on all sides?

Irony was lost on the regime. And I daressay, it was lost on Furtwängler also. Going by his career record. As opposed to other artists, he adapted just fine. Without having at least some instances of making a stand.
