A Si Fi watchmaker.

This is where you get weird. It's fine to say a claim someone makes is subject to proof - regardless of what may have sourced or inspired the claim. But you're attacking the source because somebody used it in a way it was not intended. That's not a fault of the source but of the one who used it inappropriately. Don't blame the car for killing someone when the driver was drunk.

Yes if you are not attacking a claim or if the person making that claim doesn't want you attacking it, they have no business in a lab.

It is the fault of the source if that source is asking for a pass. I see the same reaction with theists as well. They make a claim and by proxy of depiction because it was depicted that means it is true.

No place you get your ideas from or a mere depiction makes it true. Si Fi lovers want special treatment just like those in religion claim to be inventors because of depictions in their books.

Having the tires kicked over and over and over is the only thing that gets something to the point of being usable. Mere depictions and merely being inspired does not mean it is true by default.

Some QM scientists are confident we can eventually bend space and time to move through space and or time. But the fact si fi shows are depicting those things now does not mean we are there yet. Thus the word "eventually".

And at the same time these same top guys can point to the si fi shows or movies and point to lots of other things in them as well that they would clearly tell you will never happen. That is not what QM means by infinite possibilities.

Will happen and has happened are still not given a pass. You still have to do the work to the point where it does happen. And that work does not happen on a movie set.

And again, Si Fi is still not the only place people get their ideas from.

Make any depiction you want, but dont pretend Si fi is the only fiction people make claims in or the only source of inspiration.

Not even Si fi fans get to say "just depict it". "Make it so" means do the work. So until you get there you still are not there.

Can somebody with photoshop please add Data to Picard and Riker doing the facepalm. Sometimes, even two are not enough.

Name one fucking science fiction author (or any other fiction author) that works in a lab and is trying to prove some unsupportable claim.

No sci-fi source is making the kind of claim you seem to think they are.

No, sci-fi fans are not asking for anyone to take fictional claims seriously and you're the only one who seems to think so.

No one has made this claim, but you keep straw manning it.

Actually, the only sci-fi I have seen with FTL are set in the future. What the fuck is wrong with speculating what might come in the future?!?

So what. No one is claiming these things will happen. That's you making shit up.

Nobody is claiming that science FICTION is trying to relate reality, except YOU

Nobody is claiming otherwise, except your straw man.

For fucks sake Brian. You are the only one who thinks these fictional claims are being accepted in reality, except for a minority of really stupid people. No one thinks were on the verge of interstellar flight in FTL ships. No one thinks quantum teleporters will be on sale at Walmart next Tuesday. But you seem to think there are some teeming masses somewhere that do.

Delusional much?!?

Wait a minute! Look at the shadows in front of Riker and Worf. There is no similar shadow in front of Picard! It's FAKE!

Nah. Riker and Worf were on the holodeck. Big Grin

Oh, another Star Trek thing that must be real since Star Trek presented the idea to us. Think Walmart will have one or will I have to go to a specialty store to get mine?!?

I'm pretty sure Worf was photoshopped in. Still, the claim is there that Worf was in the meeting, thus causing a triple face-palm so it must be true according to the laws set forth by Brian37 that all science fiction claims are believed true by default!
