Quote:You start a discussion about God, and when someone engages with you, you announce you don't believe in God, making the OP nonsense... The point is that we're discussing myths here, you know. Atheists (or deists, and/or an agnostics) can be no less educated in theological aspects of a given religion than even apologists of said religion but the differense is that they operate with full knowing that it's still nothing more than a myth. By the way, an interesting aspect is that an unbeliever may happen to enjoy studying and discussing theological and philosophical aspects of a religion much more than a believer. Because a believer is almost always restrained and pressed by his dogma while an unbeliever's mind and imagination are free. The fact of the mater is she started the conversation, there are a lot of things I don't believe in, but guess what? I have no interest in discussing them. You guys claim to not believe in God, fine, But then don't start threads on how evil God is, because he doesn't exist right? If you actually want to start a discussion about God, I don't need to hear the proclamation that God isn't real, do you think I forgot where I am? If you don't want to discuss the subject of God, then don't bring it up. That's all. RE: Comparing god to a Narcissist.

Quote:You guys claim to not believe in God, fine, But then don't start threads on how evil God is, because he doesn't exist right? Why not? There's no need to believe in, say, Emperor Palpatine to start a thread on how he's evil. Declaring that he does not exist does not make the discussion nonsence. And then there's another point. While God is a mythical character there are lots of people around who take him as if he existed and make decisions with that in their minds. Thus for us it is in fact very important to analyze God's character to better understand the philosophy underlying said people's beliefs and actions.
So I guess in retrospect, according to huggy, apparently we (non-believers) shouldn't discuss Santa, greeblings, the Easter Bunny, and ANY work of fiction (because it's not real), just to name a few.
I guess I'm not allowed to discuss my thoughts on any of these things because they are all imaginary. But... Huggy is allowed to discuss things like the fictional work of the bible because to him it's factual. There go those fucking double standards again. First with drippy, now with huggy. Please continue to let me know where I stand with regards to my FIRST AMENDMENT RIGHTS and what I can or cannot discuss. If YOU want to start a thread on how evil Palpatine is, then have the discussion within that context. If someone gives you an opposing view on Palpatine, you announcing that "Palpatine doesn't exist" makes no sense because it's understood that Palpatine doesn't exist (I realize I'm speaking to an atheist, I'm just humoring you), and you started the topic in the first place.
If someone gives me an opposing view on Palpatine as if he knew or saw him personally it may be necessary for me to emphasize that he doesn't exist.
Honestly huggy, if you don't like my topic, stay the fuck off it. Learn to pick and choose your battles and stop coming off like an annoying prick telling people what they can and can't do here.

Show me where I started any thread on any subject. Besides many of the discussions I have aren't about religion, but are about things that can be proven, but guess what? When you atheists are provided with proof you still refuse to accept it, as proven in the whole secularism of Denmark discussion. |
