I really don't understand how can anyone think that qatar represents arab culture. I think Arabs view Qatar the same way many Latin Americans view the USA (fat, spoiled, cultureless and pro proxy wars). It's annoying how money can do this

FIFA is already demonstrably one of the most corrupt as fuck organizations in the world, with execs bringing in millions each year to their personal accounts with no transparency and no accountability.

Wouldn't be any surprise at all if a large % of those millions is from the Qatari bid team and their backers.

Agree though. Holding a football tournament in a country that doesn't even have a football team, in the middle of a desert, where there is no infrastructure to accommodate even one international football match let alone an entire tournament, is absurd.

And that doesn't even touch on the de facto slave labour being employed in Qatar to build the bloody stadiums, many of which are dying in horrible conditions that would make a Soviet Gulag looks like the Hilton.

People need (and will) boycott this tournament. It's terrible reflection on the kind of mentality that FIFA has, accepting bribes to host the tournament there, then turning a blind eye to the misery that is being caused for thousands of workers who are responsible for doing the grafting. None of them give two shits so long as their bank balance is nice and big.

From a first world problems perspective, having the World Cup in winter will mean the merger of two horrible things, world cup viewing parties, and Christmas-themed après-ski parties, to one big insufferable pile of hedonism with bad music. It's going to be a sight to behold, if you can still see straight.
