Should I hide my atheism?

RE: Should I hide my atheism?
Depends on your situation, and why you need to make the statement. Only you can know if stealth mode is reasonable. You should just be aware that you are traceable online and be prepared to take responsibility for that, no matter what subject we're talking about.

RE: Should I hide my atheism?
'Should' is a personal moral question for each person to decide..

'It it wise?' depends on context. In Australia the question rarely comes up.When it does,my usual response is "I am not a believer" and decline to discuss the matter. If the person persists, things go down hill at a rapid clip.

My friends and family know and understand, and accept me as I am,as I do them. I really could not care less what some anonymous stranger thinks.--UNLESS there is some unacceptable personal disadvantage;EG harassment at work or a threat to my safety. THEN I will tell bald faced lies with no qualms..

Unless you live somewhere that considers lynching atheists to be a civic duty.....Texas, Alabama, etc... I can't see the harm in it.

It's a sad place you live where you need to ask this question.

It is a sad place we live in. Too much capitalism not enough socialism.

And that lynching atheists thing also.
I used to tell a lot of religious jokes. Not any more, I'm a registered sects offender.

My friends know I am an atheist. My parents suspect it. I keep it under wraps at home because I don't want to upset an unstable system.

There can never be enough capitalism, and can always be less socialism. You have your priorities reversed.

It sound similar to admitting you're gay.
In fact it appears you would get less grief for being gay.

Why don't you post your name on your profile then?

You mean like me?

And me? Smile And Adrian? And Rob? And others?

I think atheism should only have to be presented when people are being theistic (in the way aracists should only have to present their view when racists are presenting their view). But should it be a 'hidden' or 'anonymous' fact?

NO!

RE: Should I hide my atheism?
The way I see it; I live in New York and there are more theists here of every brand and sort than roaches. I have to listen to them preaching in the streets, on the subway, they knock on my door etc. I feel that the same rights that they have to spew their mythical lies and force their views down the throats of everyone else, are the same rights that allow me to aver vehemently that I am an atheist and I do so with pride. My entire family is aware of my atheism and apparently I am the only atheist to my knowledge in my family. When questioned about my beliefs I do not care where I am I will answer in the negative when it comes to my belief in the biblical god or any god for that matter. Seriously speaking though, I believe that if I was born during the inquisition I would have died an atheist martyr for my unbelief. I am a stubborn bastard when it comes to certain things.
There is nothing people will not maintain when they are slaves to superstition
