Ask an ex-Catholic
I'm an ex-Catholic.  You have questions.  Let's get started.

Why did you stop being a Catholic?

It should be a lot better than the self righteous ass-fest that is the other thread. Dodgy
"There remain four irreducible objections to religious faith: that it wholly misrepresents the origins of man and the cosmos, that because of this original error it manages to combine the maximum servility with the maximum of solipsism, that it is both the result and the cause of dangerous sexual repression, and that it is ultimately grounded on wish-thinking." ~Christopher Hitchens, god is not Great

I am technically an ex-Catholic myself in that I attended a Catholic kindergarten and attended Catechism until something like 10 years old. I didn't even buy into the nonsense as a child though so I may be a stretch of the definition. My parents figured it out and mercifully stopped the futile indoctrination.
Only two things are infinite, the universe and human stupidity, and I'm not sure about the former.

I have never seen a day where that smiley was animated.

Because I came to my senses.

I went to a private Catholic school for 7 years, and was quite heavily indoctrinated, so it was an uphill climb. Fortunately, my family also loves science and taught me critical thinking skills, so by my teens I was questioning heavily.  By my 20's I'd left the RCC, by my 30's I'd left all supernatural nonsense behind.

Kids have no defense against the indignities their parents put them through...like being baptized a fucking catholic.  But one can escape when one reaches the age of reason - about 7 for that shit - and it speaks volumes about the ones who willingly stay.
