Has anyone seen "Jurassic World"?
June 14, 2015 at 12:04 pm
I'm a big fan of the JP series and, predictably, the first installment in particular.
I am very excited about the new one, although I pretty firmly expect that it will fail in some aspects I find essential in the first one.
So has anyone here seen it and wants to share their analysis?

I heard they were coming out with Jurassic World, but I haven't seen it. Is it out now?
The first movie was a great horror movie. the other ones I'm not a huge fan of. I forget if it was the second or third movie where almost every death was due to something the protagonists did, and the "villains" of the movie weren't really villainous.

I wonder how that hemster ball shaped safari vehicle shown in the theatrical trailor is suppose to work.
Also, not even bob Bakker thinks stegosaurus can run.

I watched it, and if you totally forget the existence of JP1, and believe JP3 was the first movie in the series, then yeh it's a good movie. Otherwise you are in for a disappointment. In this movie, there is some action, loads of stupidity, good CG (but way less realistic) and 0 characterization. Throughout the movie, the only character I could somehow care about would be the raptor.
PS: regarding the illogical dinosaurs, they do have an explanation. They are not natural but made in lab, so anything goes.

The first one was good...until the kids showed up and then it went right down the shitter.
The others never got out of the shitter.

Can you say what type of stupidity?

Kids in movies can be a mixed bag, because they typically don't have the experience needed to be good actors. There are some exceptions, I'm sure, but I don't set the bar real high when it comes to kids.

I thought the kids in JP were ok. The boy is somewhat annoying, but that's on purpose as he is actually annoying Alan Grant in-universe, so that's perfectly acceptable, and even makes for pretty funny, if slightly heavy-handed way to characterize Grant

The kids are there most likely because they came cheap, other than that it seemed like a mixture of different plots and they didn't serve to enhance any of them. I don't want to say much because I don't want to give out spoilers, but none of the human characters serve any real purpose in this movie. The acting wasn't the worst I have seen, but the story didn't let them do much either.

I think they put kids in movies like this to have characters to which kids in the audience can relate. It is all about making money, not about making a good movie. And that explains why so many movies are so bad in so many ways.
