What is/are your God(s)?

RE: What is/are your God(s)?
I prophesy a dash of Pascal in the offing...
At the age of five, Skagra decided emphatically that God did not exist.  This revelation tends to make most people in the universe who have it react in one of two ways - with relief or with despair.  Only Skagra responded to it by thinking, 'Wait a second.  That means there's a situation vacant.'

(June 21, 2015 at 11:30 am)mh.brewer Wrote: I’m new to this forum and primarily a lurker/voyeur. I’m not proficient at communicating in writing so this may not exactly get my point/idea across.

Quick background, 58 years old, conservative, atheist, not tied to any particular political position (politics on a case by case basis). Escaped the religious programming at age 13.  Employment has been in healthcare and healthcare fraud prevention. Retired at age 54.

Back to the question, what is/are your God(s)? I don’t really want to hear from the deists, I know all I care to about that delusion.

Here is why I ask. Over the years I have had many motivating factors and influences in my life including money (but not greed), security, mind altering chemicals (product of the 60’s and 70’s), sex, …, and in certain aspects they were my Gods, they motivated me and affected my behavior. I could name more but I want to get this going.

I’d like to hear from the non deists/non theists. What are the motivating/driving forces in your existence? What factors direct the majority of your behavior or directs your life? Is it money, security, pleasure, drugs, sex, technology, society, altruism…..? For some of you are you your own God (what’s best is what’s best for you mind set)?

Looking forward to responses and thought provoking lurking

Women and sex are the main factors that drive my existence, I pursue sex with a disregard for my own health sometimes although I've tried to be more careful recently, I lie to people to some extent.
I say sex and women because I enjoy more than just the sex, I like the build up to it, the chase, the conversation and so on and I hate sex just for the sake of it, it has to be with a girl I like.
It's like a magic ingredient to me that makes anything good better.
Pretty much any place I go and anything I do is better with women there and sex being even slightly involved.

As far as drugs are concerned the only one I'd try again is probably ecstasy, but I think the enjoyment of sex is higher in the long term and the risks are with sex are lower.

I'm pretty altruistic but there's some crazy charity organisations out there now and I'm pretty sceptical about them.
I don't know if it's like this in America but in England if you turn your TV on in the middle of the day there's TV adverts requesting donations to save the donkeys, the bees, the polar bears with melting ice caps, the cats, the dogs, ontop of the standard ones which are old people, Africans with no water supply and so on.  I think it's pretty devious the way they do it aswell, playing the slow music with a picture of a sad donkey there, I like donkeys but I'm not giving them money as harsh as that sounds.
And they show the polar bear looking upset ontop of its melting ice cap but don't show the polar bear splashing through the blood of the baby seal it just killed, I like polars bears aswell but if you're going to be an apex predator in an unstable environment you're bound to get fucked when things change and I don't think sending money to an organization will stop the climate change causing it.

Are you ready for the fire? We are firemen. WE ARE FIREMEN! The heat doesn’t bother us. We live in the heat. We train in the heat. It tells us that we’re ready, we’re at home, we’re where we’re supposed to be. Flames don’t intimidate us. What do we do? We control the flame. We control them. We move the flames where we want to. And then we extinguish them.

Impersonation is treason.

I'm motivated by love of family, inner creativity, a desire to learn, and the need to feel as if my time here is not a waste.

None of those rise to the level of godliness, though.

Knowledge.  I have a library.  Books are what I choose to surround myself with.

The shelf on the right is now full and another has been added.
I reject your reality and substitute my own!

I'm a sworn atheist and I don't have any gods. And I don't have any driving forces. I love money, computers and computer games and sex with blonde blue-eyed boys around my age but none of these is my driving force - I just am.

Beer.

As for godlike beings look no further than my sig. Better than any other god I've heard of, that's for sure.

Myself. I refuse to become dependable on anything else or I'll just end up having the bad effects of "abstinence".
