Many, even some unbelievers want to "accommodate" religion. It's a whole tussle between the mean, nasty "new" atheists, and the sweet, old, nice, live and let live atheists of yore. You'll frequently hear theists sing that song as well: "what does it matter to you what I believe? It's harmless after all!" Sure, like cancer is harmless.

Oh ok. Thanks.

I thought the people murdering each other over it was enough of an indicator that's it's not just a sunday picnic club ._.

Not all atheist ignore the harm it does, but even on this page I do get the compartmentalization.

All religions, and I do mean all, for whatever good people point to in them, you still find others who use the same label to justify harm. It is a refusal of our species to face the fact that there are too many individuals in our species that are unaware of the tribalism they defend and too many individuals whose good intent of empathy allows cover for those who would cause harm. We need to foster the evolutionary reality that our species behavior, both good and bad is in us, not holy books or religious labels.

I'm sick of politicians dicking around the real problem.

David Cameron in his first speech since this massacre said that Islam is "a religion of peace".

Fuck that. It's the furthest thing from peace. It's a religion promotes radicalisation and it's a religion that glorifies killing. I'm fed up with the PC brigade coming out with the no true scotsman bullshit. Islam is evil.

Who was it who said religion poisons everything? Wish that guy was still around, might be one of the few talking sense after things like this.

Hey guys no one has posted the France issue in Lyon yet? I was hoping it would be here rocking AF.

EDIT - Just made my own thread about France's issue.

We can, but our spineless leaders won't do it because it fucks their chances of staying in power.

They thrive on dismissing endless acts of violence as nothing to do with 'the majority'. Makes me puke.

And nevermind they're attacking in a functioning islamic country to destabilize it. For the second time and where it hurts them the most. Might be some food for thought that not everything is as simplistic as black and white. There's a middle ground between calling any religion a religion of peace and making outright blanket statements.

To be cynical, even if it was my intention to completely suppress Islam by force,  I would still go about doing that while saying publically that "Islam is a religion of peace".    It is simply sound tactics to avoid riling up right now those Muslims whom I otherwise would prefer to suppress later, that way I can better concentrate on suppressing those muslims who I would prefer to suppress first.
