What's not to understand? Tacitus talked to christians or heard about christians making a claim. You don't seriously consider Tacitus to be an eyewittness to Jesus, don't you?
So he's a secondary source. He's reporting and he reports on the basis of his time. Look up the Ehrman quote of what was considered history at this period (Forged is the book you're looking for), since you're such a big Ehrman fan.
And I gave you a reference for comparison. Pliny the Younger and his eyewittness report on the eruption of Mount Vesuvius. Notice the difference, even by todays standards?
Please don't tell me, you don't know the difference between primary and secondary source.
Oh, yes. And my scholarship would be my degree in history. Which doesn't make me an expert on everything but which made me an expert on evaluating sources. It's one of the things they teach you at university ad nauseum.
