Interesting (if somewhat upsetting) fact: I had always thought the MMS went from 0 to 10 and then stopped. Apparently, it is open on both ends.
A quake of magnitude -15 releases energy approximately equivalent to a dust mote coming to rest on a table. A quake of magnitude +15 is roughly the gravitational binding energy of the Earth. By way of comparison, the Death Star caused a magnitude 15 quake on Alderaan.

Yeah, it's been known for some time that the northwest part of the North American continent is due for a big one. I remember seeing something on TV about it a while ago.
Apparently, the length of the actual tectonic shift will be massive, creating a tidal wave that will run for miles and miles(kilometers for those people that use a measuring system that makes sense).
