Found the term in several articles think it is very militant atheist.  To new to post links yet sorry.

What does a very militant atheist look like?

Stalin or Lenin?
To me a militant atheist would be a atheist that acts as radical as a fundamentalist and as hate filled. By what little I have seen there aren't many.

Go to Alt.atheism and you will see many. When you can't even talk science or History without theism being brought into it, there is a problem. Maybe it is because of baggage caused by theist in the past. Think I read the article in Friendly Atheist blog. Article there calls Richard Dawkins one. Many articles on with the term. Sorry could not really help still learning and I can only look at this screen so long before it start to blur.

Ya I have looked into it but I don't think militant atheist is right because the four horseman are classified as "New Atheists", It just seems to be a classification of anybody who speaks out publicly about atheism. The point I was making though, is that there are no branches of atheism, there is only not believing in god that is all atheism is.

That is pretty much what I have seen. Atheist except for disbelief in a deity come in all types.

We are all simply people, who happen to all be atheists. We took no pledge, we joined no group, we support no common cause.

Being an atheist doesn't (or hopefully shouldn't) define anyone any more than not believing in monsters under the bed should define anyone.

Certainly it seems most atheists on this board strongly support critical thought. I'm sure there are plenty of atheists who don't. My wife, for example, is not big on it.

That's an interesting point.
I think religion is a special case. It is so absurd to swallow in the cold light of day, that without indoctrination, it just can't work.
So really, as long as you're not subjected to indoctrination, you don't need any reason to NOT believe, as we have said, it is the default stance.
It makes sense to NOT believe, it is common sense. Even my silly wife knows that! Who needs critical thinking?

My wife's thinking is fine in general, she's been indoctrinated into things like ghosts by her parents and some other superstitions. She refuses to challenge them.

I think you're totally right ignor, unless you're very easily led you don't need a lot of thinking skills to avoid just gobbling up a random fairy story.
