When is sex unhealthy

So I heard terms like "sex addict", "porn addict", "hypersexual", and "nymphomania"; but when is line between a high sex drive and a bad relationship with sex?

I am not a physician or psychologist, but AFAIK, the health professions usually find unhealthiness when something causes personal distress or loss of typical function.

To echo the above, a lot of "paraphilias" and sexual things classified in the DSM, if I recall correctly, include personal distress and interference with relationships/life in general as necessary diagnostic criteria.

Now, of course, just because something's not a mental disease doesn't mean it's not unhealthy; I'm sure certain sexual behaviors aren't good for you if you don't use proper time management, observe good hygiene, or take certain other considerations to account. But I'd venture it's highly dependent on the certain action. I mean, if someone has the urge to watch an hour of porn a day and masturbate twice, well... fine for them. If someone has the urge to watch porn for an hour a day and masturbate twice at work, well... that's probably across the line.

To add just a tiny bit to what The Barefoot Bum states, if you are sore afterwards, you might be doing a bit too much.

Basically, if you hurt yourself (or your partner), or if it is taking up too much of your time and interfering with other things you need to do, then you should be thinking that maybe there is a problem.  But if no one is hurt, and if you still have enough time to do the things you need to do (like eat and sleep ), it is probably not too much.

I think the basic rule is that if something obstructs in your normal daily functioning in life or causes difficulties in relations with others it's the point of it becoming unhealthy

By "hurt" I meant causing damage, not merely pain, though I personally do not like pain nor do I wish to inflict it.  If others enjoy that, that is their business, but it is not what I meant.  My apologies for using an ambiguous word in my explanation.

If nobody's feelings get hurt and you don't need a shot to recover it should be okay.
