Luckily I never reached stage 8. I was already apalled when reading about it. So I stayed with 7. And still am. I'm not very much interested in being a microsoft beta tester. Even more so, since all the newer systems offer is some tablet shit and apps I never use anyway.

From some of the articles I've read, M$ seems to be cashing in on the general acceptance of "freemium" apps by adding advertising (which you can pay to remove) to some of the included apps. This sounds like a trial run for a new (to M$) business model where they roll out new versions of Window$ for free and get to double dip by charging the advertisers to place their ads and their customers to remove them. Now maybe M$ is going to limit these tactics to things like freecell and mine sweeper, but then maybe monkeys will fly outta my ass. Why settle for $150-$300 per license when you can set up 200 places to charge $5 each to enable/disable something.

I'm really beginning to wonder how long it will be before cars and houses have screens on them solely for the purpose of displaying advertising (inside and out) and a monthly premium to disable them.

Took a spare drive for my spare Windoze machine and updated to Win10. We shall see. So far the drivers are all good and present programs do not seem to be an issue as of yet. Still have a dozen or so programs to install.

BTW, discovered that once you perform an upgrade on a particular machine, you are from that point on able to do a fresh install on that same hardware without the need for a product key.

Well, when you activate a product key, it's tied to a "fingerprint" of your installed hardware at Microsoft (AFAIK this has been done since XP). Apparently when activation occurs on the new install, it finds the product key based on that stored fingerprint.

Another known glitch with Win10 is the latest Intel Management software.
Uninstall and install 9.5? and the shutdown will work properly.

This should be resolved in the next week or 3.

So your MAC gets sent up to the mothership.  Not scary at all.

This doesn't bode well for pirated copies, obviously, or people who reuse their old Windows CD on new computers.
