I don't mean to be too critical about your inquiry and el_presidente can certainly speak for himself, but I think this has already been answered. el_presidente explicitly set aside orthodoxy. This leaves, based on his comments, a strong yearning for community buttressed by a common sincere tradition; the tradition and community ultimately being more important than the putty with which God fills the gaps. I respect this, despite my ultimate disagreement about the actual existence of any particular deity.

One of my best friends from the military converted to Judaism. He isn't jewish in his ethnicity at all. A Georgia cracker. But for some reason he felt strongly compelled to adopt the Jewish faith.
