I've never met a group of people so anti kids lol. Interesting. I wonder why that is?

I wouldn't necessarily say it's an 'atheist' thing. Looking at the bigger picture is a trait of *some* (certainly not all) skeptics and non-believers, so maybe this falls into that category.

I also want to iterate I am not 'anti-kids' where I want to literally remove children. Rather I am anti-reproduction where I do not want the kids in the first place. Again, others are totally welcome to their children, it's none of my business what they do with them. Just don't expect me to like them the same way they do. Small humans are not my cup of tea. Small animals though, totally cute.

By saying "anti kids" I just meant don't like them don't want them.

Most respect those who speak truths they agree with, and their respect for the speaking only extends as far as their realm of personal agreement. It is less common, almost to the point of becoming a saintly virtue, that someone truly respects and loves the truth seeker, even when their conclusions differ wildly."

Because the temptation to have a nice barbecue is too great from some, and they have to rationalize it somehow. [Image: 2mdfamh_th.jpg]

10-4 on that. I'd agree with your description (of me) then. I also totally understand the evolutionary *urge*, especially in women, to want to make more humans, and that a hormonal spike can and usually does kick in. I'm nearly 30 now however and have never had that urge, since the age of 14/15 or so I've always questioned my need to ever want children, and my conclusion hasn't changed.

Cute bunnies and doggies though. I could cuddle and play with them all day long ^_^

RE: Overpopulation
I wonder if there's a correlation between sceptics and being anti-kids because sceptics tend to think very deeply and explore all angles, so may find more reasons to not have them. Just a thought. I don't even know if there actually is a correlation.

Some people (not saying people on this forum) seem to put no thought at all into it. My own mother admitted she "doesn't know" why she had children.

Atheism positively correlates with education level.
Number of children negatively correlates with education level.

That a very broad-strokes possible answer for you.

(If you want to go farther and talk about liking children rather than just having them, we could start speculatin' all wild and loose and throw in
Personal education correlates positively with family members' educations (via moderating things like family wealth and history).
Positive attitude towards children correlates positively with number of children in your family (which correlates negatively with family education).
I don't actually propose this as more than a possible way to think about it, but, meh.)

Don't worry, my friend.  If this be the end, then so shall it be.

RE: Overpopulation
My husband and I are currently trying to have kids. Now I'm wondering whether I should make a celebratory announcement here when/if I get pregnant lol.

^The fact that I even have to "wonder" about sharing news that pretty much anywhere else would be cause for celebration, definitely tells me there is a correlation between atheism and being anti kids.

Well if/when you do make that announcement I will happily congratulate you!

Back when they used to ask "Smoking or non-smoking" in restaurants my wife and I would always answer "no kids."
