What kind of a researcher are you?

I'm fresh out of highschool and trying to decide on my future, so I'm naturally curious about what other people do with their lives.

RE: Smokers
I smoked for well over 20 years and after a few years of smoking regretted starting. Tried quitting several times without success and always worried about my health. One day I took a pack I was smoking on and wadded it up and have never smoked on since, it wasn't easy but I was determined I was going to be successful and have been since the late 90's. Now I can't even stand to smell and want allow anyone to smoke in my house and car, figure I have the right to keep my things smelling clean and I sure don't need to breath second hand smoke. I can breath much better now and have far less risk of smoker related illnesses.

So here's why I wrote this, if as you guys believe, a weak minded Christian can quit, why not you. Do as I did put them down and never pick one up again, just don't do it. I promise you this, it's something you will never regret, best of luck to those who try and congratulations to those who succeed.

God loves those who believe and those who do not and the same goes for me, you have no choice in this matter. That puts the matter of total free will to rest.

You said it yourself. You were determined. That's what's necessary to kick the habit. Sadly I haven't reached that stage yet.

In a nutshell and with lots of jargon: data analysis of frequency modulated reflectometry data to produce plasma electron density profiles in tokamak.
Essentially, coding.

Wait, you don't actually get to play with a Tokamak, do you?

That's one bad health habit I never picked up. I did fall prey to the alcohol demon though so I know what a monster addiction is.

I'm glad you beat the habit, GC. I'm in the process of doing that myself.

My advice? Don't start, and if you do, quit while you can. You have my sympathy and my support.

When I was a kid, my cousins tried to get me to smoke one of them "funny" ciggarettes.

My father would take me to visit his side of the family in New York and would give me money for candy and stuff. But one time the other kiks wanted me to chip in a dollar for a nickle bag. I'm like "Wait a minute. If itt's just a nicle, why do you need a dollar?"

I hear y'all whicpering and bumping your elbows "Gee, Rhonda was a dorky kid, wasn't she."

Shut up.

Anyway. They rolled one up for me to try. It felt like just what it waas, sucking smoke through a rolled up piece of paper. They said I did it wrong, but I neverr felt inclined to get it right.

As for straight cigarettes ("Straight cigarettes?" Come on, Rhonda. Does everything have to be about sex?) my father told me that when he was a kid his father told him he couldn't smoke until he was 13. So on his 13th birthday he lit up a cig and walked across the kitchen where his father was sitting. Gramps couldn't say anthing so my father kept smoking til in his 30s a dentist told him he was pre-cancerous. He decided to stop. He fought against the physical addiction and then the psychological addiction and eventually quit. Though to his dying day he never quit those "funny" cigs.

Never smoked. Never will. I'm somewhat allergic to cigarette smoke. My father smoked Winstons. They smelled like shit, the smell clung to everything, including my own clean clothes, and I'd have crazy violent and long sneezing fits every morning going from the relatively clean air of my room - which had the door closed all night - to the rest of the house.

Smoking is a huge pet peeve of mine. I hate it when attractive women smoke. 100% boner dethroner there. I don't like it when smokers touch my stuff, especially my food. It's not rational, I know, but my brain equates smoking with smelling like shit and ashes, and I don't want that on me, in my food, on my stuff. It's a complete visceral reaction.

I swear to God that I'm quitting after this !

You have my full support, buddy.

If it will help, visualize all the things you've been wanting to buy, but couldn't because all your money was being spent on cigs. Do the math, man. Now you'll be able to afford that nice (enter what you will).
