This seems tangentially related to this thread so I'm gonna just leave it here:

You could argue that Jon was the most trusted person on the political scene (if you could categorize him as a political figure, he'd deny it) and he's just a comedian, but that allowed him to tell some uncomfortable truths and act silly. Jon, if you like him, has your respect, yet he says some of the silliest things; fart jokes, accents. Obviously, an actual politician couldn't get away with it, but why?

Man, if Trump gets the nomination Jon Stewart will probably cry himself to sleep for retiring. Most entertaining candidate from his point of view. Romney was about the opposite of fun or funny.

I'm wondering if some of the success Trump is seeing so far has to do with how utterly fed-up people (at least on the Republican side) are with the status quo. There's also the fact that the Republican base is just fucking insane. Look at how far Rick Santorum got in the 2012 primary.
Only two things are infinite, the universe and human stupidity, and I'm not sure about the former.

There is a sizable wing of the republicunt party which is pissed off about everything.  There is no dealing with people who want the country like it was in the 1950's.

Trump: The Mouth That Roared.

I don't which would be worse: If Trump is being earnest about his views, or if he is being insincere.

You know, I don't really think Trumps views are that different than most Republicans. It's just the way that he expresses them that's different. I'm not really following politics very closely right now, so I could be wrong, but does he have a view that is radically different than the other Republican candidates?

Well, calling immigrants "rapists" seems like it's at the small end of the bell-curve. He's also said that he'll make Mexico pay for a border wall, which is a unique and unfulfillable promise.

Seriously, his mouth is in fourth, his brains in neutral.

Quote:I do think the one refreshing thing about him is that he doesn't apologize for things that he says.

Erm...one of the marks of a thoughtful, mature individual IS apologizing for what one says.

As a non-American, trust me on this one:  Donald Trump is the living embodiment of every negative stereotype the rest of the world has about the US.  He's an ignorant, buffoonish blowhard, nothing more.
