I will always be me. My identity, as me, will never change. I definitely do not have the same thoughts or beliefs I had once upon a time... but I am still me. I look quite different than I used to... but I am still me. When compared to the me of time gone by, I have changed almost to the point of being unrecognizable... but I am still me. Since the me from then and the me now can't exist at the same point in time, the comparison is nothing more than an observation that I have changed. It doesn't mean I am no longer me.

Lots of things can change 'permanently(?)' actually... ie: serious brain injury would irrevocably (with our technology) change 'me' Although one may always 'be themself', one can still change to the point that just who "themself" is anymore has become the question. I'm not sure what you mean by 'attitudes' here... could you clarify?

Only IF this person's attitude has changed, will the reason for them being where they were put be no longer sound and should be reviewed.

I can see this being true in many cases... although again the word 'attitude' could be defined several ways : )

So was evolution when Darwin first thought it through. I don't think the circle is a good example to use with psychology ...for biological sciences it is perfect and yes you would have a new 'species' of circles.

Well, this isn't as important as evolution in my opinion... in fact it is rather 'stating the obvious' I think that the circle's capacity for distortion makes it a very good example... but I really don't know of anything simpler to use. I suppose i could use a table or the like and have it degrade over time until it is dirt (or the like)

As for people/biology... I rather find it difficult to really separate the two

On second thought, I think I can use your example to clarify what I mean. I am 'Z'. 'Z' is made up of X+X+X+X+X. 'X' being a variable. Regardless of what state those variables might be in, 'Z' remains 'Z'. Is that what you mean? Z= my definition of 'identity'. Is that wrong?

If Z is made up of X+X+X+X, then it is a dependent variable (dependent upon what X is). I thought you were noting it to be an independent variable :S
