Gun owners?

Gun owners?
New member. Curious as to how many of y'all own? And what your stance on the whole subject is.

Personally I am a former marine and currently enjoy gun smithing as a hobby. Would also love to get into competition shooting one day. But I am a strictly peaceful gun nut. I would never want to take another persons life. Especially that of another American. Even though I can carry in public I generally choose not to.

RE: Gun owners?
I think I've finally come to the conclusion that I'm against handguns, or any gun easily concealable.

Can I ask you: Would you be for an effective gun regulation that somehow took illegal guns off the street and out of the hands of lunatics if it meant making it more difficult for you to own a gun, or to own certain kinds of guns that you are currently enjoying?
I can't remember where this verse is from, I think it got removed from canon:

"I don't hang around with mostly men because I'm gay. It's because men are better than women. Better trained, better equipped...better. Just better! I'm not gay."

For context, this is the previous verse:

"Hi Jesus" -robvalue

I will say that right now I am happy with the current level of regulation for guns. Can criminals get guns? Sure. Can criminals get knives? Sure. Can criminals get explosives? Sure. Am I scared of any of the above to the point where I would regulate guns and/or other things even more? Nope.

Just my personal view. I know others will differ.

My husband owned a Glock until we had toddlers, then he sold it. We've since bought a BB Gun for the girls to play with.

I don't think whether you own a gun is a moral question. The question is whether you use it morally, and whether you store it safely.

As to whether they should be legal generally, there is a fair amount of the U.S. (geographically not population wise) where wildlife almost demands a gun, and deer the population is exploding so hunting rifles are a very good thing. But there is no real city need for a gun, and I don't see why small handguns should be necessary or legal.

I think if we educated people properly on guns like we used to there would be less issues with gun violence. Could you imagine a high school pistol shooting team? Or skeet team? Or marksmanship team? I'd love for my future children to enjoy the shooting sports. But for some reason this scares people.

But as for why handguns are necessary? You mentioned dangerous wild life but how about the dangers of the inner city? Walking home alone after a long night at work and getting jumped by(insert demographic here). I would want a gun in that situation.

It's more that in the inner city, a hand gun might:  allow you to hit innocent bystanders; put you on trial for murder; or make you think you're safe when any idiot you haven't seen yet can shoot you any time.

As to the high school shooting team, or skeet team, why couldn't the guns be stored on site rather than at home?

The real U.S. problem is that there are so many handguns, and other guns out there now that it's hard to imagine effective future gun control of any kind.

One pistol for home defense only. Do not like hand guns in general. To much potential unintended collateral damage. To easy to conceal.

Many other non hand guns. I only have access and they are disabled (except for 2) when in storage. Not willing to go into further details here.

As for restrictions, I'm generally OK with that. For specifics, that  would be on a case by case basis. Willing to consider extensive background checks, waiting periods, limits on types of firearms, registrations, no person to person sales, re-certification/qualification/evaluation to continue owning.............
I don't have an anger problem, I have an idiot problem.

(bold mine)

You can't think of any reasons why the idea of guns in school scares people?

You are correct about the innocent by stander. However we all take that same risk everyday climbing into our cars. It's a calculated risk and gun owners need know they will be held responsible just like a driver would be. And yes you are correct about there being too many out there. If all gun sales were stopped tomorrow there would be no shortage of firearms for years to come. The bad guys would still be able to acquire them.

Check out the All Hail The Second Amendment Thread under politics.

I have several black powder replicas.  Wouldn't even consider trying to use one in self-defense.
