What should John do?
#11
RE: What should John do?
There is no John! Tongue
A Christian told me: if you were saved you cant lose your salvation. you're sealed with the Holy Ghost

I replied: Can I refuse? Because I find the entire concept of vicarious blood sacrifice atonement to be morally abhorrent, the concept of holding flawed creatures permanently accountable for social misbehaviors and thought crimes to be morally abhorrent, and the concept of calling something "free" when it comes with the strings of subjugation and obedience perhaps the most morally abhorrent of all... and that's without even going into the history of justifying genocide, slavery, rape, misogyny, religious intolerance, and suppression of free speech which has been attributed by your own scriptures to your deity. I want a refund. I would burn happily rather than serve the monster you profess to love.

I'm trying to understand. John is playing a simulation video game that has actual living sentient beings in it? That are actually alive and sentient outside of the simulation....like they're real?

Uhm... Accept Jesus as his personal savior?...

Nah, the sentient beings are living inside the simulation Smile

In that case they're not actually sentient beings...right? I mean...it's a video game... what difference does it make?

It's a hypothetical simulated reality program disguised as a video game with sentient, self-conscious AIs living inside it Wink

That is very confusing, and I'm not a scientist, but I'm pretty sure that's not even possible.

Well there's a whole lot of discussion regarding simulated reality and its physical plausibility, but those things aside, let's just say John have one handy on his PC in the text-conjured universe he's living in Rolleyes

RE: What should John do?
Exactly how complex is this 'simulation'? If these people are actually sentient, could you go to jail if you tortured one? Is it like Digimon or something? When I hear 'simulation' I think of something that is not real, but if these people posses actual sentience rather than the mere illusion of it, then this 'game' has frightening moral implications. Or maybe that was your point...  Thinking

Maybe John could compromise and have them rescued by aliens? Aliens with crazy technology that resets the star to an age where the civilization could mature and escape in time.

May I ask why how/why you came up with this particular scenario?
