I have played that game a couple of times, it is a fun game! Ok, so it basically amounts to moving your ships as fast as possible into the center and unloading all your pew-pews at each other but it is fun. The most interesting game included Romulan warbirds and the two Romulan players immediately cloaked their ships while me and my Federation partner booked it toward the middle planning to circle up to defend. We were ambushed on the way to the middle by those sneeky Romulans, but they didn't have a very good position so they ended up getting beat up pretty bad. One of them eventually suicided next to me which was mostly absorbed by my shields.

Yay Star Trek,

Yeah man, its alot of fun! the most complicated board game i have ever played, but that just adds to its charm Smile

New game I love: Arkham Horror

Played this game while working Otakon Overnight Security. It's fantastic. It has Cthulu, elder gods threatening to swallow your world, other dimensions, monsters to beat, a patty wagon, aaaand, you're playing with the other players against the elder god, which is a nice twist that I like. Smile

Some of the ones below aren't technically board games, but rather 'pen and paper' games, still - favorites of mine.

Scrabble
Dungeons and Dragons 3.5 edition or earlier
Pathfinder
Shadowrun 4th edition
Monopoly
d20 Modern
chess
checkers

... those are the ones that come to mind right now anyway.
If today you can take a thing like evolution and make it a crime to teach in the public schools, tomorrow you can make it a crime to teach it in the private schools and next year you can make it a crime to teach it to the hustings or in the church. At the next session you may ban books and the newspapers...
Ignorance and fanaticism are ever busy and need feeding. Always feeding and gloating for more. Today it is the public school teachers; tomorrow the private. The next day the preachers and the lecturers, the magazines, the books, the newspapers. After a while, Your Honor, it is the setting of man against man and creed against creed until with flying banners and beating drums we are marching backward to the glorious ages of the sixteenth centry when bigots lighted fagots to burn the men who dared to bring any intelligence and enlightenment and culture to the human mind. ~Clarence Darrow, at the Scopes Monkey Trial, 1925

3.5 blows chunks... second edition all the way.

Speaking of monopoly what are some of the optional rules everyone else uses if any?

no one uses modified rules for monopoly? We play train ticket, lottery, and first come first serve.

We play free parking. So if any tax or fine is paid, it goes into the middle and if you land of free parking, it's yours, but it also always starts out with $500.

And if you land directly on go you get $400.
