Post 10 Random Facts About Yourself
RE: Post 10 Random Facts About Yourself
Whateverist the White

To say my mother was prudish would be an enormous understatement.  But it wasn't in a disdainful way, more like revulsion.  But I got to work through all that and it turns out my mother was missing out on some pretty good stuff.

***************************************************************************

Oh I see!  Sorry, I misunderstood.

yes, we've got lots of nice bird life to watch around here,
but I don't have anything like that view from your in-laws' place.  Stunning.

I saw the nest pic you were talking about, for the hummingbirds.  I do see what you mean.

We actually had a mated pair of Coopers' Hawks nesting in our backyard, last year.
They don't sound like other hawks.  Their call almost reminds me of a Hyena's laugh.

The Great Horned Owls were only passing through; they don't live in my backyard, sadly.
I only heard them that one night.

I wouldn't mind having them live around here, since we have a bit of a skunk problem around here
and owls are usually the only animals that don't hesitate to prey upon skunks.
I guess they have no sense of smell.

I heard the hooting, over the TV.  I muted the TV and listened; at first I thought it was a dog barking.

I saw them in the darkness, a mated pair, in the big Silver Maple tree,
only two big dark shapes against the night sky.

I went and woke my Dad, I knew he's be interested.
We stood there, whispering softly to each other,
listening to the owls.

Then Dad leaned in and said to me:

"By the way, you are accomplishing NOTHING by whispering.
Those birds can hear your heart beating. "

LOL  he's right, too.  They can hear mice moving under a foot or more of snow.

Suddenly the birds took flight, swooping down, right over our heads, flapped a few times, and were gone.

I would estimate their wingspan at about 4 or 5 feet across?

I felt the breeze as they passed.

1. I've never been west of the Mississippi River, though I've been to the UK five times.
2. I have degrees in law and mathematics along with minors in philosophy and creative writing.
3. I've never broken a bone, and have only needed stitches once.
4. I played the trombone in marching band and the euphonium in symphonic band in high school and college.
5. I'm the reigning U.S. Champion of a table-top strategy game. If you PM me I will give you the link to the site!
6. My favorite food is peaches. I could eat 20 peaches. Millions of peaches. Peaches for me. Millions of peaches. Peaches for free.
7. Starting with my great-grandfather, the oldest male in each generation on that side of the family is named Joseph. None of us were Joseph Jr., though, and although my Uncle Joe is older than my mom, I was born before any of my cousins and thus got the Joe moniker. In the unlikely event I have a male child before either of my younger brothers, I will think long and hard about a fifth Joe.
8. I am an amateur sports reporter and statistician, and am trying to break into reporting/broadcasting as a side job.
9. I have been alive for 227,337 hours.
10. I have watched every episode of the original run of Futurama approximately 30 to 40 times, and I can recite large portions of these episodes from memory.

Don't worry, my friend.  If this be the end, then so shall it be.

"Of course, everyone will claim they respect someone who tries to speak the truth, but in reality, this is a rare quality. Most respect those who speak truths they agree with, and their respect for the speaking only extends as far as their realm of personal agreement. It is less common, almost to the point of becoming a saintly virtue, that someone truly respects and loves the truth seeker, even when their conclusions differ wildly."
